The historic Indian Shaker Church located near this cache site
dates back to 1910. "As tradition tells, John Slocum (Squ-sacht-um)
had died from sickness in 1881 when he revived during his wake
reporting a visit to heaven and instructions to start a new
religion. When Slocum became ill again several months later, his
wife, Mary, began to shake and tremble uncontrollably in prayer.
Soon afterward, Slocum recovered. The religion is thus named for
the shaking of members during religious congregations. The shaking
is reported to have healing powers." - Wikipedia (thanks to EraSeek
for providing this info).
The Shaker Church Road is a quick, but narrow cutoff for those
who want to go west on Route 8 from southbound US 101.
Unfortunately, it does not work for the other direction. Please
bring your own pen or pencil to sign the log, and a trash bag to
help keep the area clean. I hauled away a bag of trash when I put
in the cache. Happy caching, Oly Sidewinder.
