Geocache Description:

Be it nature, history, recreation or relaxation, Hunting Island State Park offers a little bit of everything.

This is the culmination of a series of seven caches, that traverse the length and breadth of the island and surrounding park land.

To find this cache, you will have to complete four challenges, each consisting of several tasks at various spots around the park.

Challenge 1: Prerequisites

You must find and log the other 7 caches in the series.

Hunting Shells - A level 1.5 cache.
Hunting Gold - A level 1.5 cache.
Hunting Treasure - A level 2 cache.
Hunting Bears 2 - A level 2.5 cache.
Hunting Snipe - A level 3 cache.
Hunting Party - A level 3 cache.
Hunting Expedition - A level 4 cache.

Challenge 2: Collecting Data

You must locate several items and record the information found there.
That information will be used to calculate where to begin the 3rd challenge.

Task 1: Go to the coordinates at the top of the page and seek a small green canister. Inside will be the coordinates of your next destination.

Task 2: You are seeking an Army Corps of Engineers survey marker disk.
What year was it set?

Task 3: Stand over the marker and project these four waypoints:
Wpt1: Bearing 202° true for a distance of 1.97 miles.
Wpt2: Bearing 95° true for a distance of .29 miles.
Wpt3: Bearing 56° true for a distance of .80 miles.
Wpt4: Bearing 126° true for a distance of .52 miles.

Task 4: Wpt1. You are seeking a National Ocean Service benchmark disk. From that disk, proceed on foot on a heading of 182° true for 276 feet. You are seeking an info plaque. How many dollars per ounce was the going rate for bird plumes?

Task 5: Wpt2. You are seeking an info plaque. The Croc moved into the pond in what decade?

Task 6: Wpt3. You are seeking a witness post survey marker. From the post, proceed on foot on a heading of 63° true for 170 feet. These large metal objects are known to have been in use in this country since what year?

Task 7: Wpt4. You are seeking an info plaque. The central beach erodes at a rate of how many feet per year?

Challenge 3: Micro Canisters

You must find a series of micros - the last micro has the coordinates for the final cache.

Task 1: Using the data gathered in Challenge 2, complete the missing coordinates for the first canister.

A = Last digit in the year from Wpt3.
B = Last digit in the year from the survey disk in Task 2.
C = 2nd digit of the answer from Wpt4.
D = 1st digit of the answer from Wpt4.
E = 3rd digit of the answer from Wpt2 minus 3.
F = 1st digit of the answer from Wpt1 multiplied by the second digit.

Challenge 4: Find the Cache

Micro 3 gives you the final cache coordinates and the trail nearby begins your trek. Alas, after a few hundred feet, the trail will fizzle out and you must find your own way.

The cache container is an ammo box. Instead of the usual geo-junk for trade, please bring along any signature items you may have to add to the cache, i.e., buttons, cards, pins, coins, stickers, etc. Lots of people like to collect these items.

As a memento of your ordeal, er, adventure on Hunting Island, you will find "Survivor Cards" in the cache.
