Geocache Description:

EVENT CANCELED: Due to some unforeseen circumstances with staffing issues/complications, this event has been canceled for Saturday, May 15, 2004. We will try to reschedule, and will post more information when it's available. I certainly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you; I'm looking forward to this event once it's rescheduled.

THANK YOU!

FINAL UPDATE: The event starts at 9 AM, but in order to qualify for prizes, you must complete your hunt by 11:45 AM. Prizes will be awarded at 12 PM near the check-in area. However, if you're not interested in qualifying for the prizes, the caches will remain in place until the event ends at 2 PM. Again, participants will be able the log the event for each cache they find as these caches are not permanent. Dogs are allowed at the park, but MUST REMAIN on a leash at all times; bring water for your dogs! Please email any other questions about the event or contact Claude Moore Park at 703-444-1275 through Friday, 5/14, at 5 PM.

This is a new and special event for Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services. Join the hunt and find the cache! Please join co-sponsors Claude Moore Park and Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve for our first-ever geocaching event. Discover Banshee Reeks' trails and meadows as you search for hidden treasure over the park's 700 acres. Several caches will be hidden throughout the preserve and prizes will be awarded in different categories. This event will be held rain or shine. The caches are not currently active as this park does not have regular operating hours; the caches will be active ONLY for this event. The coordinates are for the entrance to the park; check out the website listed above for driving directions. Once at the park, follow the main road in and park at N 39 01.704/W 77 35.978. The check-in area is located here, and an info. packet will be available for all participants. Event starts at 9 AM and you do not need a GPS to participate as written clues will be available. Prizes will be awarded for the Fastest Cacher, Slowest Cacher, Youngest Cacher, and Oldest Cacher. Stay at the park after you complete the caching event as Banshee Reeks is open to the public; enjoy the miles of trails and the different habitats in the preserve.NOTE: We received permission to allow participants to log the event more than one time so that all cache finds can be counted toward cacher's overall totals. I hope this will allow more interested participants to come and join in this great event! Please contact me if you would like more specific information. Otherwise, we'll see you on May 15th!
