Buckhorn Wash Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Udink: I got a report from Utahnix that this cache was missing again, so this evening I took my family down to Buckhorn Wash so we could place a new one. I checked and, indeed, the replacement container that was left in April (by the way, thanks guys [:)]) is no longer there. We ate dinner in one of the campsites near the cave, then I scrambled up past the cave and placed a cache up on top of the point just north of the old cache. The new one is easier to get to--or perhaps more difficult, depending on your perspective--than the old cache was.

Thanks to everyone who dared to climb up to this one to find it. It was a fun location, but maybe it wasn't the most well thought out place.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the middle section of Buckhorn Wash near several designated camping areas. The "4" terrain rating is no exaggeration--this is a difficult cache to reach, so please do not attempt it unless you are comfortable with your climbing skills. This is not a cache for children, however, the area in general is great for children to play.

The climb up to the cache is short, but difficult and potentially dangerous if you're not adept at this type of climb. I was fascinated by this rock formation the last time I passed through this area, and decided it would be a great place for a cache. I wasn't sure if it would be possible to climb, but it wasn't too bad (for me). I would like to have placed the cache on the very top, but that climb is even more difficult.

The cache is a piece of 2" PVC, 6" long, with a rubber slide-on cap. The trade items originally included are courtesy of Scout Master, who gave them to me on our way to Sister Superior (GCG1TH). It's hidden in a hole in the cliff and covered by a rock.

There are several nice areas to have a picnic or to camp nearby, including right at the base of the rock formation where the cache is hidden. There is also a shallow cave nearby, and a restroom is also conveniently available.
