Geocache Description:

Yes, there is a chance you might see otters at the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s Wolseley Centre. Not from the final cache site, but the cache trail takes you there, and if you have the time and patience to watch, then who knows what you might see.

The Wolseley Centre welcomes visitors to the site at Wolseley Bridge. There is plenty of parking space (at the above co-ordinates), plus a shop, a café, toilets, an exhibition and an information centre. The paths and boardwalks are wheelchair/buggy friendly, but the grassy paths might be a bit difficult. And they are open seven days a week, though the gates are locked outside office hours. The hours are reduced out of season too, but there is a pedestrian gate always unlocked.

There are two virtual caches which give you the bits you need of the north and west co-ordinates of the final cache.

North co-ordinates: Go to N52 46.828 W001 57.782. The aviary you will pass is actually for bats.
There is a number on a tree near the seat. Ignore the zero. Go down the steps (count them, but not the more-than-half-buried one at the bottom) and tut tut at the uselessness of the remaining fancy posts (count them) without their chains. If the river isn’t too high you will see prints in the mud, often those of otters.
You need a three digit number to complete N52 46.*** so now comes the arithmetic! Start with the number on the tree. Subtract the number of steps. Subtract twice the number of posts.

West co-ordinates: Go to N52 46.870 W001 57.987.
Counting again, sorry. All to do with the bridge. Count the number of planks in the deck (P) and add one or three, depending on which set you count! Divide this number by the number of horizontals (H) in the handrails. Now count the number of verticals on each side. Now build up the three digit number that completes W001 57.### as follows.
( (P+1)/H ) ( V(left) ) ( V(right) )

The cache is a small plastic bottle thing with the usual assortment of goodies, and log book, pen, pencil and sharpener. It is in a black plastic bag for disguise.
It is hidden under stones.

Be careful not to disturb anything or fall in the water as you wander round!
