Oopperatoiminta alkoi Suomessa 1873, jolloin Suomalaisen teatterin
yhteyteen perustettiin Suomalainen ooppera. 1993 valmistui
Helsinkiin Suomen Kansallisoopperan uusi talo, jonka ovat
suunnitelleet Eero Hyvämäki, Jukka Karhunen ja Risto Parkkinen.
Siinä on kaksi näyttämöä; päänäyttämöllä on 1350 katsojapaikkaa ja
pienellä näyttämöllä 300–500 paikkaa.
Katsojia oopperassa käy vuosittain lähes 300 000.

Opera performances began in Finland in 1873 when Finnish Opera
was founded in connection with Finnish Theatre. In 1993 was
completed a new Opera House for Finnish Natinal Opera. It was
designed by Eero Hyvämäki, Jukka Karhunen, and Risto Parkkinen. It
has two auditoriums, the main auditorium with 1350 seats and the
studio stage with 300 to 500 seats. The
Finnish National Opera has almost 300 000 visitors annually.
