The American Crow is a familiar site to all Albertan's and this
area is almost sure to yield a sighting. Crows enjoy this
particular area and this cache was placed so that geocachers who
are interested can get a little information about crows from a neat
nearby resource. There is a sign that tells you all about crows and
ravens, see the waypoints below for the coordinates.
The Bird caches are usually small caches, never ammo cans, and
are placed in hides, this design feature gives the cache container
longer life in our harsh Canadian climate. Every Bird cache will be
contained in some type of protective hide and this hide was made
with a piece of litter I recycled from the CITO geocache Heavy
Lift. I had to do a bit of work to the piece of trash I selected
before it was suitable for crow but all worked out well. This cache
should remind you of the crow in a very real fashion and if you are
inclined this area is an ideal place for continuing CITO
efforts.
The crow features prominently in North American mythology and
along with the closely related raven is one of the easiest Alberta
birds to identify.
Crows have a reputation for being exceedingly clever.
The Corvids include crows, magpies, jays and ravens, all familiar
sites in Medicine Hat. The American Crow is an often overlooked
bird and their call is harsh and loud, none of that affects their
great good cheer, playfulness and curiousity, we are richer by far
when these black bandits decide to grace our environs.
This cache can be accessed from many different locations so no
parking coordinates are provided. Please replace the cache as
found.
