Ellipse II Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Kingwood Pathfinder: Ellipse II and Parabola II are being archived.

These have not proven to be popular caches. Neither was found in 2008. It is better that the prime park location these occupy be used for caches that folks actually hunt for and find. I will soon replace these with other caches which will hopefully have more curb appeal.

Congratulations to the hearty few that logged Ellipse II and Parabola II!

Geocache Description:

Calculations are required to locate the cache, but it is an easy walk to retrieve it.

The coordinates above are not those of the cache but, instead, one of two foci of an ellipse. The second focus is four (statue) miles due south of this point. The closest the ellipse comes to the given coordinates is one mile due north. The cache lies somewhere on the ellipse.

Also passing through the point with the above coordinates is a straight line oriented in such a manner that for every mile it goes east it also goes two miles north. The cache also lies on this line.

Thus the location of the pint jar cache is at the intersection of the ellipse and the line. (There are actually two intersections – the line extends both ways – but the cache is at the one north and east of the point given by the coordinates above.)

This cache is a successor to “Ellipse” which was archived because of muggle problems.

Additional Hints (Decrypt)

[The distance from any point of the ellipse to one focus plus the distance from that same point to the other focus is always the same number for a particular ellipse: in our case, six miles.] xnb tvo.
