Write note bbqandbeer posted a note for A$OFC$ - Pacific Avenue

Thursday, May 12, 2011Texas

I took today off for a job interview and decided to go try to finish up the west end of monopoly series with the rest of the afternoon. After finding parking about 1 mile away near the canopies and noticing a small party going on under one of the canopies I hiked in - I spend way too much time getting to this cache having entered the woods east of what would be a good entrance. After spending a solid 20 minutes making my way to GZ, I notice the clouds overhead have gone from light gray to pretty dark, a light rain has started and out of nowhere the tops of the trees are getting hit with a fierce wind. I made a phonecall to get a weather check to see if this was something I should be worried about or not. Friend tells me 50-60 mph wind, hail and a few inches of rain are coming and likely on top of me within seconds. Ok, I need to get out of here. I make my way north and hit the trail super fast (note to self, enter at benches and go south). Along the trail I am getting pounded with rain, I snagged a few quick cell phone pictures of the trees getting bent over in the wind but none of the pictures do it justice. I hear trees cracking and crashing in the woods. I come up to a spot on the trail where two huge trees have crashed down and are blocking the path. The biggest tree being close to 3' diameter and running lenghtwise down the path, blocking it from treeline to treeline for about 170 foot. I climb over those two trees and get about 50 feet past them and see a huge flash of light followed immediately by a ear crashing boom. ok, Lighting going off right beside me now so I begin to run the path for the next 100 yards or so. Tired of that I make the clearing and see my truck where I left it. As I am walking past the pavilion I see the same group of people hooping and hollering in the rain, and they motion for me to come in and get out of the rain. I start off with looks like I picked the wrong day for this, and when they ask I tell them I was geocaching - looking for things people hide, and one or two of them had heard of it before and all was good. One college age beautiful brunette girl smiles and offers me a beer which I thankfully take. As I am standing there semi drying off, I have this crazy thought.. did I get hit by lightening and die back there? Looking at the beer it's a miller light so I quickly disgard that notion. As I get my plan to leave together I hear the college group discussing their plans to run and slide in the mud. Thanking them for the beer I parted ways. I did not find a single cache today, but thanks for the adventure. I love monopoly, always an adventure.

infoThis is the original cache type consisting, at a bare minimum, a container and a log book. Normally you'll find a tupperware container, ammo box, or bucket filled with goodies, or smaller container ("micro cache") too small to contain items except for a log book. The coordinates listed on the traditional cache page is the exact location for the cache.
