Didn't find it High Maintenance couldn't find Pitt's Outpost - Bear Scare

Monday, September 08, 2008British Columbia, Canada

Yes, I am posting a DNF even though I am the owner of this cache. I was asked to adopt it as the original owner has moved out of the Province. In the meantime it looks like it also needs maintenance so I decided to get out there and find the cache and replace the container...I was wondering if I could claim a find if I did find it as I had not been out here before. Well that turned out to not be an option. I parked my van right beside the bear sightings warning and hopped out with geopet Bailey. Then I noticed fresh poopies on the trail filled with berry seeds and pits..so I'm remembering the sign I parked beside. Then I'm looking more closely at my surroundings and realize that I have forest to my left and blueberry fields to my right...I slow my pace as now I'm going to be more observant. Suddenly Bailey stops and hunches down..as I look up...Glory be...but what do I see? A big brown bear! And then a little brown bear...and then another little brown bear ...acting like they own the place. I think they were at most three hundred metres away from me...and that was it....I high tailed it to the van even though I know you are not supposed to run...or turn your back on them...and you should make people aware you are out caching (which I didn't)..so I dragged faithful Bailey as fast as I could go back to the van barely keeping my lame shoes on..they were only half on and I kept thinking I should just run out of them and pick them up later or...leave 'em for the bears...I didn't look back once because I didn't want to lose precious seconds...and if they were coming after me I pretty much didn't want to know it anyway...Well obviously we made it back to the van where I became braver...and drove it to the gate and tried to get some pictures...but by now they were so far away you could barely see them...I sent an email about this to geofriends and they all had a good laugh...Hellraiser had the audacity to mention "was I sure they weren't squirrels?" HMMPH!! I think I'll send him in to check it out next time!!!
So to be fair..I did not find this cache or the cache area so I am officially posting a DNF to my own cache!

infoThis is the original cache type consisting, at a bare minimum, a container and a log book. Normally you'll find a tupperware container, ammo box, or bucket filled with goodies, or smaller container ("micro cache") too small to contain items except for a log book. The coordinates listed on the traditional cache page is the exact location for the cache.
