Found it sandlanders found Illinois Low Point

Thursday, April 11, 2013Illinois

When we visited Fort Defiance SP in 1989, we remember the rivers being up a bit. Sure had to walk a ways today to get close to this tip of Illinois, and Mr. Sandlanders didn't want to get as close as I did. Took the elevation reading as near as I dared to go, then made my way back through the mud and the rocks and the river debris to a more "comfortable" spot. We took a few more photos and watched some barge traffic, but the rain got to be too much, so we went back into the car where we sat and had our picnic lunch before hitting the road north to Wisconsin and home.

We enjoyed this cache and visiting the Illinois low point, which by the time we are writing this log (a couple of weeks later) has most likely gotten a bit higher. Glad we visited the location when we did! Thanks for the EarthCaches here, AirRaidFan!

infoAn Earthcache is an educational form of a virtual cache. The reward for these caches is learning more about the planet on which we live - its landscapes, its geology or the minerals and fossils that are found there. Many Earthcaches are in National Parks. Some are multi-cache in form, and some have a physical log book located in or close to a Visitor Center. Earthcaches are developed in association with the Geological Society of America.
