Found it huffinpuffin2 found Unnecessarily Evil Lil' Arrows

Sunday, January 27, 2013Wisconsin

We've been looking at these pretty Lil' arrows, off and on, for several years now. Never could crack it.

Then, Happy New Year, 2013! We took it up a notch and began looking at it more frequently, earlier this month, when we started planning a trip to the area. Still couldn't solve it, even though something was emerging - we could see 'it', but not quite make sense out of 'it.' Then, about a week ago....um, around 1/19 at 7:37pm, according to our notes ......, it just unraveled before our very eyes! Well, all except for 2 digits; but with a little help from a techno-tool, the exception was clarified, and the answer was confirmed!

How the heck did someone solve this bugger the same day it was published! Good eye? Twin to the CO? Well, impressive!

We finally had the chance to visit Hayward once again, this time to attend the CO's 'HCH's 6th Annual Not so Super Sunday Event.' Soon after the event, as darkness was descending along with a heavy snow, we made it to the parking spot to begin our search.

You know? Even though we've been caching for several years, we've never put our GPS into 'follow the arrow' mode. But we figured out how to do that just for this cache. So with GPS in the correct mode, we began following the arrow. And the distance number dwindles; "That's Good!" And we were soon closing in on the final. Well, kinda. We soon realize the dang arrow had started taking us too far this way, and too far that way, and seemingly never directly to the cache. Crazy! Frustrating! It's out of control! Crazy fun in the snow!

Finally, we converged to a single general area, and the spot was made. Yes! After years of picking away at this puzzle, this gnarly beastie puzzle, we had our mark on the log! It felt good! Real good!

Thanks, Mr. Cheezehead, for another fun puzzle! (Fun, ya know, cuz we solved it )

And with that, we headed off into the falling snow in search for yet another HCH puzzle cache! In the dark. So many HCH puzzles, so little time. Prolific man!

(And, oh yes! We took the GPS out of that Evil Lil' Arrow mode, vowing to never use it again................)

infoA Mystery Cache is the “catch-all” of cache types, this form of cache can involve complicated puzzles you will first need to solve to determine the coordinates. The only commonality of this cache type is that the coordinates listed are not of the actual cache location but a general reference point, such as a nearby parking location. Due to the increasing creativity of geocaching this becomes the staging ground for new and unique challenges.
