Oh what an adventure we had today. Big Chief and I decided to go for the two Piker swamp caches today. Maybe we should have gone another day. We found the nice trail made by Two of Hearts and his gang recently and walked it to the end where we found a "frozen" creek. It looked frozen enough so we continued, walking the edge until we got close to the cache. We now had to cross it. We saw a thin layer of water and discussed if it would be safe to cross. I made a call to TOH since he found it recently. He said the ice was solid enough to support his team. I was the lightest so I went first. Half way across I hear the sick sound of ice cracking and the ice parting below my feet. Down I go into the cold and murky water. I sink up to my chest and yell out to Big Chief who now made it to the edge. He asked if I was ok, I said no I'm stuck in frozen water. Lucky he brought with him some rope. He tossed it out to me and pulled me out. As I was pulled out I noticed a 8-9 pound northern pike had grabbed my long shoe lace. I pulled the fish off and threw it on the ice near Big Chief. Soak and wet I get to the other side and make the find. When I got back we decided to keep going and get the last cache since we came this far. More in log for Marsh Lake park 2 log. TFTC
