Found it _canadianbacon_ found MacGyver Cache - How to build a cruise missile!

Thursday, May 06, 2010British Columbia, Canada

Nice newer trial with easy access. Now accessing the cache, I tell you, that was an adventure.

First off we could not see the cache, though our GPS receiver was telling us we were right on top of it... or.... perhaps we were Under it! Yes that must be the answer, MacPealGuyver must have suspended the cache in the trees!

Well, this presented a real problem, as neither geodug or I had climbing spikes in our geo-bags (I'll have to add that one on my Christmas List). So this called for some creative thinking. A quick scout around turned up a few interesting items:
1) Old Steam Donkey in the woods, complete with cables
2) Discarded Mountain Bike, (missing front tire)
3) Bucket Seat from an car wreck.
4) Tube of Crazy Glue (in geodugs pocket)
5) bungee cord
6) Spring clamps
7) Nylon Rope

We started uphill from the intended tree. Using the rope to pull the steel cable from the Steam Donkey, we managed to to get the cable over some branches and anchored to the steep hillside. No climbing required to the start of our run. We repeated the same downhill from the cache location , using the bungee cords to improvise a sling shot to get the nylon rope high enough in the trees.

At this point we dis-assembled the mountain bike, leaving only the rear wheel and the frame. From the front tire, we spread the front forks out, and crazy glued the bucket seat to them.

Then we hung the seat from our improvised zip line, and realized we had no way of stopping our harness, luckily we had the spring clamps. we bungee corded them to the rear forks, over the cable, just in reach of the pilot.

OK, who is going for the ride? Flip a coin, geodug won! he could stay on the ground and watch me! Off I go, buckled in the harness, a push off the hillside and zipping down the mountain I go.

Geodug is under the target Tree, I go faster and faster, time to slow down. I grab the clamps an squeeze! Sparks Fly in all directions, thank god the forest is wet! I slow down beside the target tree. Hmm, front side, backside, up, down I don't see the cache.

geodug is on the ground, I look down at him and what do I see, right beside him.. THE CACHE.

Oh well, there goes 30 minutes wasted.

Lowered myself down on the Nylon Rope, right above the cache, and fetched for geodug to log.

Left a Paper clip, and replaced the Plutonium.

infoThis is the original cache type consisting, at a bare minimum, a container and a log book. Normally you'll find a tupperware container, ammo box, or bucket filled with goodies, or smaller container ("micro cache") too small to contain items except for a log book. The coordinates listed on the traditional cache page is the exact location for the cache.
