***UPDATE****

I am behind on updating this trackable, but I happy to say that this tackable has been out most successful to date.  It not only failed to go missing, but it made it to its destination and back with the help of many great hands.  We have had so many go MIA that seeing this TB complete it's mission was a real joy.  Please feel free to move this TB along to a safe location of your chosing so that others might enjoy it as well.  Thanks to all who helped along the way, and thanks for the pictures!

The Atlanta Braves Hat travel bug was created in an effort to relive my youth and keep alive the 1990's Atlanta Braves.  Its mission is to travel from Fort Worth, TX to Atlanta, GA, and more specifically to geocache GC2JCYA titled Atlanta Braves.  Once it has reached its destination the journey can begin home as close to zip code 76137 as it can get.

About This Item

Atlanta Braves Travel Bug

The Atlanta Braves Hat travel bug was created in an effort to relive my youth and keep alive the 1991 – 1996 Atlanta Braves.  Its mission is to travel from Fort Worth, TX to Atlanta, GA, and more specifically to geocache GC2JCYA titled Atlanta Braves.  Once it has reached its destination the journey can begin home as close to zip code 76137 as it can get.

Growing up in the mid-80’s in a small town named Atlantic, IA I was subject to watching one of two teams on TV if I had any interest in baseball.  WGN provided season long coverage of the Chicago Cubs, and TBS provided season long coverage of the Atlanta Braves.  Now, the Braves at that time wore the baby blues which was not all that appealing to an adolescent, but then on the other hand the Cubs were, well…the Cubs.  As much of a historic figure as he was, I think Harry Carry turned me away from them.  Regardless of why, I turned a cold shoulder to Ryan Sandberg and the loveable losers in favor of Dale Murphy and Bob Horner in their powder blue unis!

Well, set in my ways, I supported the last place Bravos through thick and thin until one day low and behold 1991 brought about one of the greatest penant races that shaped my late teenage years.  That year the Braves and Dodgers came down to the final game of the season to see who would win the NL West.  The final games came down to Atlanta beating Houston and 87 minutes later the San Fran Giants defeating the Dodgers capping a regular season that saw the 1991 Atlanta Braves go from worst (in the division the previous year) to first.  To top that off we were treated to the fist World Series that matched two worst to first teams in the Atlanta Braves and the Minnesota Twins.  Unfortunately the Braves would lose that series in 7 games.  I couldn’t agree more when in their "World Series 100th Anniversary" countdown, ESPN selected the 1991 World Series as the "Greatest of All Time", with five of its games being decided by a single run, four games decided in the final at-bat and three games going into extra innings.

Forever in my mind the names of Tom Glavine, Steve Avery, John Smoltz, Sid Bream, Rafael Belliard, Terry Pendleton, David Justice, Jeff Treadway, and Ron Gant will be engrained.  1991 kicked off a wonderful decade of success, and although the Braves only have 1 championship to show for it, it is hard to quantify the impact that this baseball team had on my life whilst growing up.

Oddly enough, I have never been to Georgia hence the reason I am sending this travel bug.  My hope is that it visits it’s destination and returns home in order to extend the memory and spirit of the 90’s era Braves.  Please help it along it’s journey but feel no pressure to make it travel leaps and bounds in one jaunt.  The journey is part of the fun!  Also, if you have the opportunity, please take pictures with the travel bug to document where it’s been…….an added bonus if you display your favorite team as well!
