To go as far and wide as I can! I especially love music caches!
A friend (and first time cacher) gave this to me, as he was at the HQ in Seattle and felt I would enjoy the trackable more than him. Anyone from my neck of the woods knows that RSA Playlist is, they are:
A series of caches I will be placing that reference what I consider Essential Albums of My Life.
With this trackable I wanted to continue this ideal. The basis for this trackable comes from one of my favorite bands, the somehow OVERRATED and UNDERRATED band. Seattle's own, the mighty, Pearl Jam.
Specifically their second album, Vs. aka Five Against One. Released in 1993 the first thing you notice is it is a raw and loose record. Where their first album, “Ten” was mixed very “muddy” or “murky,” personally, I hate the original mix on Ten, once the 20 year band anniversary reissue came out in 2009 with the Brendan O'Brien remix, it has slowly climbed up to one of my favorites. Coincidentally, Brendan O'Brien, along with PJ produced Vs. I tend to compare this record to “In Utero” from Nirvana, if only because both bands were under an incredible amount of pressure for their second record and they both basically made an album that FORCED “fans” to either come along for the ride, or go by the new Jock Jams record. But as with both records, Vs. is still stacked top to bottom with almost blatant radio-ready hits. "Daughter" and "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town" come to mind, but snuck between the radio-friendly tunes are tracks like, "Glorified G" an anti-gun song with lyrics mocking gun enthusiasts, "W.M.A." which was inspired by an incident that happened outside P Js rehearsal studio in which singer Eddie Vedder got into an altercation with a group of police officers who hassled a black friend of his but the police ignored him, to name a few. To steal from a piece written be Michael Nelson, at Stereogum.com. “The rockers stomp confidently, the ballads are effectively moving and grand. The album's bookends -- leading off with "Go" and closing with "Indifference" -- are as good as Pearl Jam gets, and they showcase the band at their tonal and sonic extremes.”
If you please, in addition to logging the trackable, list one of your favorite records.
