This TB is large! She will only fit into a .50 Caliber ammo can, or larger cache. She is an alien bug queen who is very pregnant. After every mating flight she (and her sisters) creates a new cache bearing her name to raise her brood. When startled by a geocacher she will abandon her nest/cache to lesser care takers and take another flight to go establish another cache. The abondoned cache remains in place as a regular cache.
I got the idea for these bugs from the story of how fire ants were introduced into the U.S. I was reminded of this story by all of the huge fire ant mounds that I have seen in the vacinity of Houston area caches so I went and researched my idea. The study of hive dwelling insects is called Myrmecology. (I.E. Ants, Wasps,Termites, and Bees.)It's a fascinating subject. While TB Alpha Prime doesn't actually fit into this phylum, I'm hoping the spread of this bug's nests will mimic the way ants and their kin have spread across the world.
