This smurf started at the US/Mexico border with the Pacific Crest Trail class of 2006. His mission is to hike North from Campo, California to Manning Park, British Columbia, Canada.

Thru-Hiker Smurf

The Pacific Crest Trail runs 2650 miles from Mexico to Canada. Every year in late April and early May, about 300 prospective thru-hikers gather near the Mexican border to begin their trip North. This bug started at the ADZPCTKO, Annual Day Zero Pacific Crest Trail Kick Off, along with this year's set of hikers.

The PCT holds a special place in our hearts after we thru-hiked most of the trail in 2005. It is a wonderful trail that everyone, whether out for a short day-hike, a longer backpacking trip, or even a summer-long thru-hike, should have the chance to experience.

(By the way, I know most long distance backpackers are obsessed with pack weight. I weigh 1.2 oz, but I promise to bring lots of smiles!)
