About This Item

The Travel Bug

This travel bug is a keyring made from recycled plastic bags!
The process used to make these uses little energy and produces no toxic fumes.

The colours are not added, but are present in the bags that are being recycled - often bags which would end up in landfill.

And here comes the GeoAware stuff:

Companies producing or importing consumables in large plastic sacks often recieve thousands of bags per day. Once they have been used, they are often not reused or even recycled, instead being sent in bulk to landfill or to incinerators.

In our homes, we are used to piles of plastic bags from many trips to the shops - but the environmental cost of creating billions of bags is much higher than you would think. The process of producing these bags sends thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide in the air, and when they hit landfill they stay around for centuries. Some newer styles of plastic bags will break down, but this still takes a long time, and still isn't good for the soil.

Most people don't realise that they are recyclable, and even less people realist that most supermarkets will take used bags back to be recycled. Even better than recycling is reuse - but if you can, take a canvas bag. These are infinitely better for the environment, they hold more weight, break less often and are comfortable to carry.
