Mission #4 A.J.’s Trip to New York!

Adrian, Aman, Dakshin, Joon

February 23, 2015

We would like A.J. the T-Rex to visit New York. We want A.J. to see the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Times Square, and the 9/11 Memorial.

The Statue of Liberty was designed by Fredrick Bartholdi. It cost 250,000. It was built in Paris and brought to New York in 1886. The real name for the Statue of Liberty is “Liberty Enlightening the World.” The Statue of Liberty is 151ft tall and is 305ft tall from the ground to the torch. There are replicas of it in Los Vegas, and Paris.

The Empire State Building was designed by William F. Lamb. On March 17, 1930 the construction began with 3000 workers building about 4.5 floors per week. It took 1 year and 45 days to build. On April 1931 the Empire State Building was finished and became the tallest building in the world.  On September 11, 2001 the Empire State Building became the tallest building in New York City after the collapse of the World Trade Center.

Times Square is the center of the Broadway theater district. It is now popular for the diversity of activities on offer. On New Year’s Eve more than 999,000 people go together to celebrate the “Dropping of the Ball.” Times Square is busy all day with nearly forty million visitors. The area has animated neon LED signs named “spectaculars.” Times Square is a smoke-free area.

The 9/11 memorial is a tribute to the three thousand people who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The names of the victims are written on bronze panels which surround the two reflecting pools which are each an acre in size. The memorial cost $700,000,000 to build. The memorial also features the “Survivor Tree” which was found in the wreckage and nursed back to full health.

Mission# 3: A.J. the T-Rex is off to Carnival in Brazil.

November 17, 2014

By Damian, Garhett and

We want A.J. the T-rex to go to Brazil. Brazil celebrates carnival each spring. Carnival began sometime in 1850. The samba parade celebrates the Rio Carnival. The carnival is celebrated in almost every state in Brazil! Carnival is a four day event with floats, dancing, music and parades.

I want A.J The T-Rex to see The Amazon River.  The Amazon River is the second biggest river on Earth, after the Nile River.  Its width is between 1.5 km and 10 km but during the wet season it is 7x larger. It is often referred to as the river of sea because of its massive size. The Amazon River releases 200,000 cubic meters of water per second into the Atlantic Ocean. One fifth of the fresh water entering our oceans comes from The Amazon River.

Mission #2:  A.J. the T-Rex is off to Greece

By Chase, Evan and Tim

September 3, 2014

We want our trackable to visit Greece. We want him to see Mt. Olympus, and the Acropolis in Athens. We`re going to have to tell you the basics first.

Greece’s official name is Hellenic Republic. The capital of Greece is Athens. People in Greece speak the Greek language. Greece has a population of 10,760,136 as of July 2011. The size of Greece is 50,949 square miles or 131,957 square kilometers. That`s a little about Greece.

We would like our T-Rex to see the Aropolis of Athens. The Aropolis is on high ground. It is 80 feet long and 50 feet wide. The first excavations on the acropolis were 1835-1837.  The Acropolis was made in 447 BC and finished in 438 BC. The acropolis is also called ‘’ The Sacred Rock. ‘’

In Greek mythology Zeus and the gods lived on Mount Olympus. This is highest mountain in Greece. Mount Olympus is 9,570 feet sea level. Mount Olympus tallest point is called Mytika.

Mission #1 2012 Mission

A.J the T Rex is one of the eight travel bugs of Mrs. Lester’s fabulous fifth graders.  A.J wants to go to Montana. Along the way, he would love to visit football stadiums.  Please take pictures wherever he goes and share your stories with us.

Maybe A.J wants to learn about some plant life. Please take him to see the Ponderosa Pine. The Montana state tree is the Ponderosa pine. It was found by Lewis and Clark. They used the pine cones and needles to make money because they sold them to salesmen. They also could sleep in this tree. It grows a twig that changes colors from orange to black in the different seasons. The bark is really dark. If the tree is young, the bark is almost black. It grows a pine cone that is 3 to 6 inches long. It grows a flower that is a reddish color.

Even though that A.J is a carnivore he might want to see something interesting and pretty. Maybe he could see the Bitterroot flower .The Montana state flower is the Bitterroot. Lewis and Clark  found the bitterroot. They tried to eat it but it was too bitter.  It comes out during spring time. It grows in the mountains. It has two colors - pink and red.

A.J likes other animals. Please help he see Montana’s state animal which is the grizzly bear also called the silvertip bear. Grizzly bears where the state animal in 1983. Grizzly bears live in the northwest mountains and the Glacier National Park. Grizzly bears can stand up to 8 feet tall and come in three colors - blond, black, and deep brown. Grizzly bears eat roots, berries, fish, small mammals, sprouts and fungi.

If A.J wants to hear a cool story tell him about the Flathead Lake Monster. Legends are one of the coolest things about Montana. One that every sailor knows by heart is the Flathead Lake Monster. Legend has it that it has black eyes; and it’s eel shaped. It can grow up to 20 to 40 feet. It is thought to be a sturgeon which is a bony fish.

If A.J would love to see some beautiful scenery, than he should go to Glacier National Park. Glacier National Park is in northwest Montana. You can see animals, rugged peaks, valleys, trees, rivers, marshes, bogs, and of course, glaciers.  Indians lived in the park for over 10,000 years.  You can spot lots of animals in the park such as grizzly bears, mountain goats, and elk.

A.J. the T. Rex would like to take a picture next to the Montana flag. When A.J. arrives in Montana, the flag will be one of the first things he will see.  Not only would he notice the color blue, but he would also notice the mountains, forests, cliffs and The Great Falls of Missouri.  He will be amazed at the sight of the historical flag. If he gets confused, tell him some information about the flag.
