Taranis je považovaný za nejvyššího z Keltských bohů, podobně jako třeba Zeus v Římě. Taranis je velice často zobrazovaný s loukoťovými koly, která badatelé považují za symbol Slunce, dále je zároveň vládcem hromu, blesku, bouří a vůbec nečasu. Dále se mu také obětovalo spálením obětiny (věci, zvířata), pravděpodobně po vzoru blesku, který též způsobuje požáry. Spojení hromovládce a boha Slunce však nemá nikde obdobu. Je těžké se klanět bohovi, který může na jednu stranu rozsévat zkázu bouří a na druhou stranu dávat život slunečními paprsky. Další z atributů Taranise je kladivo, které je symbolem hromové rány. Obdobu najdeme v severském Thorrovi s kladivem Mjolni nebo slovanském Perunovi s palicí Milna.
Who is Taranis??
Taranis is the highest Celtic god (similar like Zeus). He is very often drawn together with felly wheels, which is the symbol of the sun. He is considered to be a ruler of lightings, thunders and storms. People usually sacrificed him with burnt things or animals (similiar like the lightings or fires do). Connection between thunders and the sun has no parallel. It is difficult to worship a god who is damaging things by storms and on the other hand giving life with the sun. Another attribute of Taranis is a hammer. An analogy can be found in the Nordic Thor with a hammer Mjolni or Slavic Perun with a mallet Milna.
