EXTRATERRESTAIAL HIGHWAY
CITO TEAM

k-lord : I always wanted to do this powertrail but I still did not have time to go here. But two weeks  ago I decided together with Joe Friday that March 4th is the right day to find all these caches. I was glad that kaiwarrior and OneKindWord could join us too. It is always better to have big team to do powertrail with more than 1000 caches. It was very sad to see first 29 archived caches. I had bad feeling about the destiny of other ones but no one could expect such a quick end of the most famous powertrail. So Joe Friday contacted CO if we could pick up all caches and we got the permission to do it. We really enjoyed our work even though we knew we were the last ones to do it. It is really sad that this series had to be archived, but it looks that powertrail cannot have long life untill some people start using common sense. Clay4 and whtwolfden, thank you for all the effort with placing so many caches for us to enjoy and also thank you for the permission to be the last to find. It is experience that cannot be forgotten.

OneKindWord : I was part of the caching crew from Denver that was tasked with cleaning up this series - an extremely bittersweet day to say the least. I was happy to have the opportunity to experience the "highway", but it was upsetting to realize that no one else would get to experience this AWESOME series of caches. A tremendous amount of work went into this and the trail was laid out in a manner that allowed completely safe access of all caches, with the exception of just a couple areas with slightly limited sight distance. 95%+ of the caches in this series should have never, ever presented any safety issues to anyone nor aroused any concern with land management agencies. It is very unfortunate that a few careless people and some isolated incidents have spoiled this fun time for anyone who wanted the adventure in the future.

Our experience on the highway was similar to many others - a fun yet grueling time and lots of memories created! Our biggest setback was a flat tire and too little gas which required us to break from the trail with about 170 caches to go. We went to Tonopah and were informed that the hole in the tire was not repairable and the closest place to get a tire the correct size was Las Vegas. So we drove straight to Vegas on our donut spare (a long drive at 60 MPH max!). While waiting for new tires to be put on we grabbed a quick meal and met up with Clay4 to return the cache containers, etc that had been recovered so far. Once the tire situation was addressed, we drove straight back out to the "trail". We retraced our steps past the already completed portion of the highway (amazing how quickly you can drive that road when not stopping every few seconds!), and got back to work. At this point we were racing against daylight to get things finished up, and we barely won. It was an awesome experience. A huge thank you to Clay4 and whtwolfden for conceiving and executing this epic caching adventure. For those who did not get a chance to experience the "power trail" but will still be in the area, I would highly recommend the Head Alien series. We walked that series and it was a highlight of the trip for me, a nice break from the highway and it felt great to stretch my legs and walk around for awhile.

kaiwarrior : The short version: - A couple weeks ago OneKindWord asked me if I wanted to go to Nevada to do the E.T. series. I made a few adjustments to my schedule and was in. Joe Friday and k-lord now had the team together. As I watched this cache the excitement was building as we prepared for the best strategy for finding the trail. I had a little panic as the logs came in "archived" on 28 caches. O.K. so there is a section that has issues. We can deal with that. Then as everyone knows the whole trail went under. True panic now. I called Joe and he was on the phone with Groundspeak, next thing I knew, everything was ok. We were to be the CITO team to remove and clean up the area. Clay4 was unable to get to to the trail on crutches and we were planning on being there in just two days. The timing gave us the opportunity to find this trail like it will never happen again. We collected a 55 gallon bag of caches and another bag full of PVC pipes. We knocked down the rock piles and removed any trash near the caches (two 30 gal. kitchen bags worth). After some mishaps and a detour (details in the long version) we were able to meet up with Clay4 and return the materials we collected. I feel bad for the ones who were not able to make it out here to get these caches. At first it was about the numbers, but it was the overall experience that made this a great series. I thank Clay4 and whtwolfden for following through with their vision and for all the cachers who came before us. The trail had some missing caches and some double caches but overall everything was maintained and in good shape. The local businesses enjoyed some good times as well and will feel the loss of this series deeper than any of us. Please don't forget about the head alien, it is well worth the drive to walk these caches. Thanks again,     Dan

Joe Friday  :  It all stared with k-lord wanting to do this great power trail. We got together to find a group of people who could go with us on the 4th of March to do the trail. We ask a couple of people and the next thing you know we had a group of 4 going. As you can see by the logs of k-lord, Kai warrior and One Kind Word, we had our worries if we were going to be able to get this done. After the first section was archive. Then when the whole E.T. Highway was archive. I had not only had several people calling me and telling but several email me about it. I contacted clay4 & Groundspeak asking if we could remove the caches and do the CITO of the area. The reply was since Clay4 was on crutches and could not it for sometime, that we would be allowed too. So off we went to do the clean up of the trail, trying to keep the Nevada DOT happy. Our adventure was not always easy as we had to endure 2 jackknife semis and a 25 car pile up to the stair down with a bull who thought he own the cache and would not move to the flat tire and a trip to Las Vegas on a donut tire to buy 4 new tires and back to the trail to finish up the CITO of the caches. That was about 280 mile on a donut tire. (that might be a record in itself !).Over all we had a GREAT TIME! Sorry this trial could not go on.

A BIG THANKS TO:
Clay4 & whtwolfden for the series.. and Groundspeak for letting us clean the trail up.

k-lord, One Kind Word, Kai Warrior & Joe  Friday
