This 1970 coin was minted by the Lewis Clark Coin Club in Lewiston Idaho as part of a series dedicated to historic places and events. As of 2010, this hotel building. built in 1922, still stands with several offices in it. If you would like to have one of these coins without a hole in it, e-mail the owner. Please do not keep this one, keep it moving.
HOTEL LEWIS-CLARK LEWISTON IDAHO
On September 28, 1922, the Lewis-Clark Hotel opened amid lavish festivities.
Local actors presented a historical pageant portraying the legacy of the region since the time of the Lewis Clark Expedition.
A parade closed Main Street from the Snake River Bridge to the courthouse at 13thstreet.
Hotel construction took a year at a cost of $450,000. $250,000 was raised from 650 local investors. The hotel would advertise itself as “locally owned”.
When the site was being prepared, the Grostein & Binnard Store, Alexander Store and the Damas Building were razed.
