About This Item

Santa Claus

While completing his rounds this year, Santa Claus found an extra gift under the seat of his sleigh. He couldn't remember who it was for, so he had to unwrap it to see what was inside. The gift turned out to be a GPS unit, and Santa decided to try out a little GeoCaching between some of his regular stops. He only has one little problem...while he was guiding the reindeer to a landing spot near a Cache in the woods, his bag got snagged on a tree and now has a big hole in it! Mrs. Claus could easily fix that, as she's done countless times before, but he didn't notice that he was spilling Christmas Gifts everywhere he went. If you've found one of the Gifts that he dropped, please try to move it towards the correct recipient and feel free to post a Note here so Santa will be able to see if it's still on track. If you actually spot Santa Claus, you can log a Grab, Drop, or Discovery.

This TB is based on the idea of a "Geo-Post Office". Each of the Gifts will have a name and location on the tag, and should be moved toward that person until it ends up in their hands. If you've been a good boy or girl, there might be one on the way to you. If you know someone who should be on Santa's List, please send me a note so I can get a Gift headed in their direction. Some ways the Gifts may get into the right hands are: being placed in a Cache they own, getting passed to them by another Cacher, showing up at an Event they are attending, getting mailed/shipped to them by another Cacher, letting them know that it's nearby so they can go look for it.

I know it'll be torture, but PLEASE don't open the Gift unless it's for you!

Have Fun with this little extra game, in case there are questions about how this works...

Q. What is this thing? A. This is a Christmas Gift that fell out of Santa's Bag after he ripped a hole in it while GeoCaching.

Q. What should I do with it? A. Look for the Name and Destination on the Gifts tag (eg. WRITE SHOP ROBERT, Lathrop, CA) and try to move it to a Cache that is closer to there, or any other thing that you think may help get it to it's destination.

Q. Are the Christmas Gifts trackable? A. No the Gifts are not trackable, only Santa Claus himself is the trackable portion of this game.

Q. What kinds of things are the Gifts? A. Most of the Gifts will be the same kinds of trinkets that I might leave as swag in a Cache, but some of them might be something special.

Q. How do I get on the Christmas List, or why is there a Gift on the way to me? A. Your name might be on the list for any number of reasons. Maybe I liked a Cache you hid, or a log you wrote, or even something you left in a Cache, or maybe some other Cacher wrote to me and asked me to put you on the list for their own reason.

Q. How will the Christmas Gifts be moved to the right person? A. I'm trusting the good will of those who find the Gifts to help move them along to the intended recipient.

Q. What do I get if I move a Christmas gift? A. You get the satisfaction of knowing that you've helped. (yeah, that's it...unless I decide to add your name to the list).

Q. Where did this idea come from? A. This idea goes back to the roots of the "Travel Bug", even before they existed. The oldest style of "Traveler/Hitchiker" was moved from Cache to Cache without any official way to track their movement. A "Geo-Post Office" works in much that way now, where you can deposit a letter and see if it can be moved by others until it reaches it's destination.

Q. What should I do with a Gift that has no name on it? A. You can Open it for yourself, or leave it in another Cache as swag, or add a Gift Tag of your own to send it to someone you choose.

Q. If I recieve a Christmas Gift, do I have to wait for Christmas to open it? A. As my Mom would say, "Yes, you have to wait for Christmas". (But I can't stop you, can I?)

I've seen Santa at "Spielwiese 2.0" ("playground 2.0"), one of two cult-caches in Germany. One week after we were there, the whole cache was destroyed by an unknown. Also the final was stolen when Santa was still in it. It seems, that Santa's faded away...
