Current Goal

To travel to the site of the Battle of Waterloo, whilst visiting places going by the name of Waterloo.
Failing that, as a secondary mission to visit places with sand. All will become apparent within the description.

Mission Accomplished On the 16/10/2008 the TB made it to the Waterloo 1815 cache. Now it just needs to make it's way back home to Edinburgh.

The original Geocoin was stolen so this is now an eagle with a copy of the coin attached to it.

About This Item

THE ROYAL SCOTS DRAGOON GUARDS

'NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT'

The motto of the Order of the Thistle, (No one shall harm me with impunity) is borne at the centre of the standard.

'ICH DIEN'

The motto of the badge of the Prince of Wales, (I serve), inherited through the 3rd Dragoon Guards.

'SECOND TO NONE'

The famous second motto of the Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons). This motto has special significance for the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards since they take second place amongst the regiments of the Cavalry of the Line, yet are the oldest of them all. This comes about because, when raised, the regiments of Horse which later became Dragoon Guards, were allowed to take precedence over the two already existing regiments of Dragoons, the Royals (now incorporated into the Household Cavalry) and the Scots Greys.

Brief History

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are Scotland's senior regiment and her only regular cavalry. The Regiment was formed in 1971 from the union of two famous regiments, the 3rd Carabiniers (1685) and the Royal Scots Greys (1678). The 3rd Carabiniers had themselves been constituted in 1922 from the amalgamation of the old 3rd Dragoon Guards and the Carabiniers (6th Dragoon Guards). The history of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards is therefore the record of three ancient regiments and, through the Royal Scots Greys, is the oldest surviving Cavalry of the Line in the British Army. With the other cavalry regiments they now form part of the Royal Armoured Corps but, though horses have been replaced by tanks and armoured cars, it is the cavalry spirit of the past which provides the inspiration for the future, whatever it may hold.

The Regiment's principle battle honour is that of Waterloo, at which Sergeant Ewart of the Greys seized a French Eagle - an act immortalised in the present cap badge of the Regiment.

Which is why it is to get to Waterloo.

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Since 1971

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys) were formed in 1971 upon the amalgamation of the 3rd Carabiniers and The Royal Scots Greys. The Regimental Band (now part of the Band of the Dragoon Guards) and the Pipes and Drums, in that same year, released Amazing Grace, which went on to win a number of Gold Discs and to secure the Regiment's reputation as being truly "Second to None". Since 1971, the Regiment has been based in the United Kingdom and in Germany and have seen operational service in Northern Ireland, Cyprus and in the Balkans. The most notable event was the Regiment's participation in the Gulf Conflict of 1990-1 & 2002-3 when they formed a part of 7th Armoured Brigade, the Desert Rats, in the invasion of Iraq and Kuwait.

Which is why it is to visit places with sand.

This Geocoin was kindly given to me by roolku, he also gave one to Firth of Forth, when we went on a 3 day trip to the Isle of Bute for an event. He said it was for all the times that we had provided the transport for our trips out, well I am with Firth of Forth on this, on the fact that it is more to do with friendship, which just so happens Firth of Forth has called hers the Friendships Geocoin

NOTE: If you have held onto this Geocoin for more than 14 days, can you send me an email, letting me know what your intentions are?
I only like a TB (Geocoin) to be held onto for longer than this, if it is going to be helped further along with it's journey.

We had planned to drop this off in a more southerly cache on our recent holiday. Technical issues however prevented this, we will drop it off locally soon and hopefully someone else can move it further.
