A Cidade Livre e Hanseática de Hamburgo (em alemão: "Freie
und Hansestadt Hamburg") é uma cidade-estado (Stadtstaat)
localizado no norte da Alemanha, nas margens do Rio Elba.
Com 1.7 milhões de habitantes é a segunda maior cidade
no país. O porto é o maior da Alemanha.
As origens de Hamburgo não estão no Elba, mas sim no seu
afluente, o Alster. Na sua margem surgiu no século 8 a
primeira povoação.
O porto de Hamburgo é a plataforma giratória para o comércio
com o Leste e o Norte da Europa. Os navegadores portugueses
são há séculos hóspedes frequentes em Hamburgo. Por isso é
que na margem do porto cada segundo restaurante é português.
Actualmente vivem e trabalham aprox. 10.000 portugueses na
cidade hanseática.
A oferta cultural de Hamburgo vai desde o Museu Kunsthalle
e da Ópera Staatsoper até aos clubes de música na Reeperbahn.
A Reeperbahn, cuja notoriedade advém da intensa vida nocturna,
localiza-se no Bairro de St. Pauli, a oeste do centro da cidade.
