Current Goal

As well as promoting this coin before it goes on general release and to help drum up funds for it from South Wales Geocachers (as, after all it is a community coin), this coin's main aim is to provide a "credits" list for all I can remember and include who have provided input into this marvelous coin's design.

Soon, this coin's main mission will be to be the definitive location for the "credit list" for all the people who actively contributed to the coin's development - from the people with the ideas to the people who contributed towards its development!

About This Item

PLEASE NOTE: As this is a proof coin and not part of the main 2009 South Wales Geocachers Coin run, it does NOT have the coin's designated icon and therefore, the hidden information for the South Wales Geocacher's Coin Mystery Cache can not found in this example.

CREDITS

Original coin instigator: Eclectic Penguin

Original concept idea of pithead gear and South wales Geocachers 'G' logo: von-horst

Original designs for the South Wales Geocachers logo on the back (the G with the stenciled flag): Studleyone, on the request of Matrix based on the public domain Leatherman Geocaching logo.

Celtic ring on the front: Eclectic Penguin - with a huge thanks to Llanelli town's Welsh Shop for allowing me to research and photograph various Celtic patterns on jewelry they sell.

I think it was Reality Minus 3 who first suggested we have a Welsh translation of the group's name on the coin's face. Welsh translation for the correct spelling of "Geogelcwyr", the welsh for Geocachers (though the word Geocelcwyr had been in use for at least a year previously): Original word Geocelcwyr was part of a welsh magazine about Geocaching article that Tortoiseshell was involved in - the correct spelling and pronunciation was provided by Heddyr Gregory (pronounced Heather), a reporter for the welsh language Wedi3 programme, a daily magazine style programme on the S4C channel. See below for more information on how to say the word!!

Putting ideas into marvelous artwork based on my descriptions and scribblings: Oakcoins and their talented mint artists - special thanks go to Emma who is my main contact with Oakcoins and also to Sarah whom I've also worked with.

Valued input from a professional graphic designer about finer details and tweaks: Derick Murdock

. Financial input: A small group of dedicated South Wales Geocachers, who have pledged or already given significant sums of money towards the coin's production. Names will be listed (or not listed on request) in the near future - I'll contact each individual investor before publishing this section.

WELSH PRONUNCIATION of Geogelcwyr

Pronunciation of the Welsh word: Geo-gel-cw-yr
Geo (obvious - the same as english, but with a hard G as in gun

gel - again has a hard g rather than the softened g in in the word "gell"

cw - Pronounced as the Qu in Queen

yr - The yr in pyramid
