This coin is an example of process and development, working with the Customer to achieve a product they want. It was started in October with first submission and finished in February with final submission.
Caching Peeps was originally designed as a three piece coin, with two halves of an egg shell that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, when you pulled them apart the center egg shaped peep would come out. This design had a flat on the bottom so that both the egg & peep would stand upright on a flat surface together or separately. As the making of this coin would require 6 dies & 5 parts it was decided to be to expensive to produce.
The next stage in the development was a two sided egg shaped coin design, retaining the flat of the original design so that the coin would still stand ie... "Standing an egg on it's end" which was cheap enough to produce but not excepted as something they wanted to produce.
It was decided to turn Caching Peeps into a sun-catcher design in an egg shape resulting in the coin that was finally produced, without the "Stand an egg on its end flat" the result is a completely different coin than either one submitted. From both the artwork and the final design the coin was transformed to what you have now. While the first coin was extremely complicated and the second coin still had my humor, with simpler elements the third and produced coin was very simple with none of the original design elements, only the shape remained.
