Current Goal

Please move this coin in any direction you want as long as it stays in North America.  This geocoin may very well be the most important geocoin you will ever hold in your hand. The reason I say that is because this geocoin is on a journey to remind people to be aware of bikers that share the road with us and to give them a little extra room on the road. Sadly, the man pictured on this geocoin (Tod) is no longer alive. On August 12th, 2008 there was an accident that involved a truck and Tod who was riding his motorcycle. Sadly Tod died as a result of that accident. Now his family and friends are left behind to try and understand why a careless lane change by a motorist took somebody they loved very much from them.

About This Item

Todie's Wild Ride Side #1

This coin was designed and distributed by Tod's best friend as a way to raise awareness of the need for more motorcycle awareness and safety programs. Please remember that the bikers on the road don’t have nearly as much protection as those of us in cars so please keep a vigilant eye out for them and give them a little extra room. By doing those 2 simple things you help a keep a similar tragedy from happening to another family. If you’re a biker please wear an approved helmet to stay safe so your family and friends won’t be forced to learn to live without you.

Grabbed this one from a poison ivy protected box and am moving it on.

It's nice, though a sad reason to have a geocoin like this, to run across a geocoin mentioned on a podcast.

The Todie coin accompanied me on the 200 mile MS bicycle ride last weekend to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research. I shared the story with several people and took a few photos.

  • Starting at Holland High School
  • At Hope College Hanging out on my bike in my dorm room after Saturday's 100 mile ride.
  • Christian Motorcycle Association Todie hanging out with other motorcyclists. The Christian Motorcycle Association volunteers for us every year as crossing guards at some of the most dangerous intersections, often stopping traffic for us. They also conduct a non-denominational church service Sunday morning before the ride back. That's where I found Carole and Kevin for this picture. Carole preached on the power of prayer.
  • Kirk Park rest stop Todie enjoys the view on Sunday's 100 mile ride. About 20 miles in at this point.
  • Todie resting at the Century stop This is a stop on the alternate century loop (most folks do 75 each day, but this loop allows us to ride 100 if we wish). Todie is resting on my bike. The other bike belongs to my friend Marc, who rode the entire 200 miles with me this weekend.
  • Volunteers Todie visits one of the many vehicles used by the numerous volunteers to haul rest stop supplies, pick up stranded or injured cyclists, etc. They are wonderful people - the ride would not be possible without them. This was the last stop before the finish line (about 92 miles in).

I just wanted to say please do take the geocoin on your upcoming ride. It was released to spread the word that biker safety (motorized and human powered) is important and any help spreading the word is much appreciated.

Have a safe journey and continue to use good safety common sense like wearing your helmet. Not only is wearing a helmet good for you, but if youngsters see you and others doing it hopefully they'll imitate your behavior.

Thanks for moving the geocoin and spreading the word. Ride safe!!!! 🙂

Awesome coin. Read about these on the MiGO website and hoped I'd find one someday. I'm not a motorcyclist, but I am an avid bicyclist and ride a lot on the roads. I've dealt with my share of careless motorists, and survived an impact with a pickup truck grill after the driver decided to turn at the last minute. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET - NO MATTER HOW SHORT THE TRIP!!! My head has hit concrete twice hard enough to make my teeth hurt. The helmet cracked or had rock punctures in it, but my head survived just fine.

I'll be riding my 10th 'Bike MS Ride' June 13-14 to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. 100 miles Saturday and another 100 miles Sunday. If you don't mind, I'd like to take the coin along for the ride and share Todie's story with some other bikers. I'll get some cool photos for you along the way.
