About This Item

Geocoin Club Feb 2010 -Pythagoras Pythagorean Tetr

Pythagoras. The overall shape is a proof for the pythagoran theorem - a2+b2=c2. Then we have the tetracytys, a 10 dot arrangement mystic symbol important to the worship of Pythagorism and symbolizes earth, air, water, fire at the points. The monad, a circle with dot symbolizes the "one source" or God to the Pythagorists. The stars are a Pythagoran Lute based on phi and pi the golden ratio. The background symbol is a Pythagoran Tree. The rotated squares are another proof for the pythagoran theorem. The quote on the red square is attributed to Pythagoras to describe the relationship between music and mathmatics and it is also in a golden spiral. All that packed into ONE COIN :) Maybe a mathematician understands all that...we just really liked the coin!

A great depiction of the triangle relationships. Redbaroness pointed this out, since I'm a science nerd. Saw this at A Day in the Angeles Forest - Grassy Hollow Event near Wrightwood, CA. Thanks for sharing your amazing collection, steben6!

We would really like to have one of these in our collection. We are both science-oriented people, and Jim of the team majored in Math before switching to Physics. We were members of The Geocoin Club, but had to drop out before this one was issued. Have to keep looking for one that is available for trading. In any event, thanks for sharing, for the icon, and for the great description that you wrote for this 🙂
