About This Item

I will be using this to log my favourite caches - these are not necessarily great caches but ones where I have had a great caching experience be it due to the cache or events that occurred at the time (and for which you probably had to be there!)

We saw this great trackable at the "SELBAC 2nd Anniversary and it's Wednesday night !!" event.

It was lovely to meet the owner again at this event, the only other time we have met has been 'in the field' near one of her brilliant caches. This 'Top Cache' coin is so deserved.

I love these Amberel coins, this is the fourth I've seen so far x x

This was the reason I dragged the SmallDragons along with me. Sometimes the most useful caching tools come in small, loud, two legged packages of the male variety. Mind you, the youngest Dragon did her best to help but, thankfully, got no more than 2 feet off the ground. The most difficult part of this cache was persuading them to leave.

This was our third attempt at this cache and we were determined not to leave without finding it this time. We tried the original coordinates, the alternative ones and then back to the original - I don't think they're out, I think there is particularly bad GPS reception here as with both sets we were over 100ft away when we found the cache using logic from reading all the logs. I rather suspect we would still be looking had we not been struck by divine intervention in the form of a security light which came on and illuminated the cache site!

What a fabulous hide. Such a relief that it was worthy of our previous failed attempts.

My word! What an amazing specimen! Truly stunning. I can't say I've ever seen one in such good condition.

I was only planning to do the Godstone multi cache in Surrey but half way round I saw this one was close by so decided to make a small detour. After all, what better day to find this than on a Thursday. Dill the Dog protested after a couple of miles so, out of deference to short puppy legs, we went via the wormhole in the space/time continuum, conviniently located in Oxted.

Bizarrely, given how popular this cache was today, I didn't see a single other cacher. Never mind. I took loads of superb photos which I'll upload later. Unfortunately I dropped my camera in the return wormhole so will have to wait for it to be returned by the Inter Dimensional Intergalactic Office of Travel Systems. If it isn't returned, I'll have to make a return trip next year.

    TFTC! A truly memorable experience.

I suggested to Pink-Inc that we leave this one due to the vast number of muggles around but she insisted it would be easy. I pointed out that there wre 2 parts to this - retrieval and replacement and she simply gave me a withering look. Taking her chance a short while later, she read the inscription and returned triumphant. Not that the triumph lasted very long as we sat and waited for the right moment to replace it.

    And waited.

And came up with increasingly whacky ideas to get the damn thing back in place before we took root on our bit of wall. If you've found the cache, you'll appreciate the predicament from the photo...

A good while and many tears of laughter later the replacement was achieved. I still think my suggestion of "I'll take a photo of you next to the anchor" would have been better than the distraction technique Pink-Inc chose but, shrug, she's always been an exhibitionist.

Visited 5/28/2009 HouseOfDragons took it to Thorium Lockbox London, United Kingdom - .63 miles  Visit Log

Another dark night in London, another attempt at the Thorium Lockbox... This time, Pink-Inc and I were prepared, armed with torches and a steely determination not to be beaten. Why we thought we had to attempt it in the dark again, I'm not sure. Probably through idiocy for completeness.

Anyway, a good time spent rummaging in the shrubbery still yielded no cache and nothing whatsoever to do with the clue until the shout when up from Pink-Inc "I've found Blakey!" I rushed up, full of glee and relief to be confronted by my fellow cacher standing by Blakey and waving about/poking a familiar looking green box.

Nonchalantly I asked "Why are you fiddling with that rat trap...?" Due credit to Pink-Inc, despite her aching legs and tiredness after a long day caching in London, she still managed a good shriek and energetically leapt up, flinging the trap away from her. We spent the next 15 minutes trying to sign the log whilst crying and giggling uncontrollably and wondering why on earth, given her germ phobia, she'd chosen this cache to leave off the caching gloves she'd been whipping out of her bag all day.

I'm still crying now, writing this log. This cache will be remembered with fondness both for our earlier DNF and our final success.
