The Kiwi


The Kiwi is a nocturnal bird found only in New Zealand's forests and on offshore islands.

It belongs to a group of birds called Ratites, which means it has a flat breastbone and no keel on the sternum with which to attach flight muscles.

The Kiwi has a highly developed sense of smell and it uses its long beak to search for worms, grubs and beetles.

The female lays an egg which can be up to 20% of her bodyweight (Imagine a human baby that heavy!).
However due to introduced predators less than 5% of the chicks survives their first year.

Discovered it togetter with Jaap and HaanIJs. I should say 'Aussie rules...', but I love New Zealand (almost) as much:-). It's a great country and home of the kiwis ofcourse. Go and visit al the the wonderful places! (and maybe stop in Sydney on the way..)

Leuke TB. We zullen Wiki spoedig weer vrijlaten in een andere cache.
In het echt komen ze voor op de eilanden Australië en Nieuw Zeeland. Wij nemen hem mee naar het vogel-eiland Texel.

Deze TB is niet gedropped in Rosarium maar in Ovide's cache (dichtbij). Ik heb helaas het trackingnummer niet meer, dus kan de log niet wijzigen. Onze welgemeende excuses hiervoor.
