About This Item

"Olaf the Red"

Ahoy! I am "Olaf the Red" (well, I WAS red before I started this journey)--a brave Viking who set out long ago. I had to esacpe "The Home" in Venice. I am bored to tears by golf, hearing stories of life "up north," television game shows, playing bingo, and swapping tales of illnesses and diseases! AND I under constant tension by trying to escape the amorous clutches of Nurse Linda! I want to eventually sail back to my home land, Norway, but want lots of adventures on the way. Please log any pictures of my exciting trip for my bored buddies at the home. (Thanks WaterNSky for sneaking me out the laundry chute and thanks to any other geocachers who help me on the way.)

Thank you, anif, for having a glorious Viking funeral for Olaf the Red and his ship. Although Olaf's body was swept overboard during the last of his journey (probably Sweden), we are sure his spirit was with his ship. R.I.P. good ol' Olaf...

On Saturday June 4th, 2011, Olaf the Red (without Olaf), was sent on his final journey into the Norwegian Oslofjord. It was a nice and sunny day and the whole family had gathered on the beach to say goodbye to this ship which had traveled all the way from Florida.

Unfortunately, it seemed like Olaf himself had been lost somewhere along the way, probably somewhere in Sweden. We all agreed that Sweden was a nice place to be resting, so Olaf was probably happy wherever he was.

Without much further ado, Olaf the Red was thrown into the water, now resting at the bottom of the sea. The resting place is not far from Filtvet Lighthouse. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC1ER74

Your wish is our command. We will make sure it gets a honorable Viking-funeral in the fjords of Norway 🙂

Yea!!!! We can't believe that the ship (minus Olaf) made it to Norway. Many thanks to all the many people that helped Olaf on his final journey of eight years! Well, perhaps the ghost of Olaf is still guiding the ship. In that case, the best thing to do at this point is to "bury" the ship at sea--or any close by body of water. Please say a few nice words for a good old Viking and then bury, drop, or throw the ship into the waters in Norway. Happy sailing!

Was to drop off one TB and found this nice ship. It seems like the ship itself has found his way home and fulfilled his goal after nearly 8 years on the road. Unfortunately, it seems like Olaf himself is missing. Where did he go, I wonder?

I think it will have a go in our bathtub before we can decide what to do with it next.
