Meissen und seine Albrechtsburg
Hoch über dem malerischen Elbtal, erhebt sich die spätgotische Albrechtsburg. Im 15. Jahrhundert erbaut, gilt die Albrechtsburg Meissen als ältestes Schloss Deutschlands.
Die Albrechtsburg Meissen ist die erste Burganlage Deutschlands, bei der der Wehrcharakter zugunsten repräsentativen Wohnens in den Hintergrund tritt. Sie gilt damit als erster deutscher Schlossbau und als Meisterwerk spätgotischer Architektur. Nachdem im Jahre 929 König Heinrich I. auf einem Felsen über der Elbe eine hölzerne Wehranlage errichten ließ, wurde Meißen zum Mittelpunkt der gleichnamigen Grenzmark gegenüber den noch slawischen Gebieten des Ostens. Der Markgraf herrschte über die gesamte Mark Meißen und residierte im Vorgängerbau der Albrechtsburg, die so als »Wiege Sachsens« in die Geschichte eingegangen ist.

High above the picturesque Elbe valley, stands the late Gothic Albrechtsburg. In the 15th Built century, the Albrechtsburg Castle is the oldest castle in Germany.
The Albrechtsburg Castle is the first fortress of Germany, in which the character exists in favor of military representative living in the background. It is valid as the first German palace and a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture. After King Henry I in 929 on a rock above the river Elbe built a wooden fortress, Meissen was the center of the same boundary mark against the still Slavic areas of the East. The Margrave ruled the entire Meissen and resided in the former building of the Albrechtsburg which is received as a "cradle of Saxony" in the story.
