About This Item

Red, Right, Returning

This is a RED Bouy Light... for those who don't know "The Rules Of The Road" while boating... you always keep a red bouy or light on the right hand side of a boat when RETURNING to a port... that way you will stay in the channel and avoid any obstructions like rocks, sandbars, etc.... hence the saying... RED, RIGHT, RETURNING...

This TB is dedicated in Memory of Heather Sourenian, 29, of Southold, NY & Timothy Sixtus, 42, both lost their lives on 08/22/2003 when the 25-foot 1998 Grady White boat that they were on ignored this rule and struck the stone Breakwater in Greenport, LI, NY sometime before 4AM at full speed... The operator of the boat was drunk (and survived, with minor injuries)...

This is an admirable mission for this travel bug. It is part of my job as a Park Ranger to convey this message to boaters. Placed in Buddy Beavers Box on Lake Lanier.

Found this in "Lake Lanier" cache. I will place this in a cache on our lake next time I get out on the water. I found this travel bug with a geocoin that I gave to a young cacher that was there at the same time as I was.

The tragic story behind this travel bug (http://www.timesreview.com/st08-28-03/stories/news2.htm) is a great idea to inform people about boating and water saftey, which is what the Corps of Engineers is all about. It is part of my job to prevent things like this happening.
