This bug belongs to 6th grade students in Mr. Seavert's 8th period social studies class at Whitnall Middle School in Greenfield, Wisconsin. It is participating in a travel bug race with Miss Musso's 4th grade class at E. St. John Elementary School in LaPlace, Louisiana. Both schools released their travel bugs on the weekend of 11/6/04 and must reach the designated cache first. This TB needs to reach the Chiefs I-10 Travel Bug Hotel (GCKMNQ) west of New Orleans. We hope that this bug will get there by June 2005, or better yet, much sooner for our chance at winning the race! Maybe it'll get there in time for Mardi Gras!
Our class's travel bug includes a graphic of our school mascot, the Whitnall Falcons, on one side and a description of our travel bug race on the other side. A rule for our travel bugs is that they must travel from cache to cache in neighboring states. Therefore, this bug must pass through caches in Illinois, then through Missouri or Kentucky and so on before reaching Louisiana. It cannot skip over any states. The travel bug also cannot be moved by the same caching team to more than two caches. Each teacher has agreed to send the other class a prize if they lose the race. If our class loses, we'll be sending Miss Musso's class some green and gold Packer gear. If our class wins, Miss Musso's class will send us some Mardi Gras beads. Students will be keeping track of both school travel bugs, and get a great refresher on their knowledge of United States geography. Please help us by attaching to your log photos of our TB in front of famous places or landmarks along the way, so we can learn more about our fabulous country. Thank you for participating in our class project!
