Current Goal

I'M NOT IN A GEOCACHE!

I'm a travel bug that is attracted to metallic objects. I'm not hiding in a geocache, but somewhere within ½ mile of a geocache.

About This Item

Magneto Travel Bug

In order to find this travel bug, you'll have to read the log of the last person that placed it. Coordinates to the travel bug's location should be supplied.

When you have found me, place me on a metallic object within ½ mile (as the crow flies) of a geocache. The geocache itself can be a multi-cache, a regular cache, a micro cache, or even a virtual cache! WHAT?? A travel bug in a virtual cache? Well, it's VIRTUALLY in the virtual cache!

Use your GPSr to note my coordinates so you can put them in the log entry you will be making for me. Use the averaging feature if your GPSr has it, or take a reading, walk away, walk back to me and take another reading, walk away in a different direction, come back and take another reading, etc. Do this several times and average all of the readings so that you can supply accurate coordinates.

After you've placed me on a metallic object and have good coordinates, make a log entry for the nearby cache, remembering to "drop" me in the cache. Make sure to post the coordinates of my new hiding place in the log or I will be lost forever!

Please don't hide me in plain sight where muggles could easily find me. Since I don't have anything except for a tracking number, if I'm found by a muggle, chances are very slim that I'll end up anywhere other than a junk drawer or a garbage can. If you place me on something silver, I won't be as easily found! If you don't want to place me on something silver, place me on a surface that isn't easily seen from a distance from any direction.

Since this TB hasn't been heard from since January, 2006, and the last person that retrieved it hasn't been heard from since March, 2006 and hasn't responded to my email, I'm marking this bug missing. :(

This little guy looked a little lonely out there! He'll have a nice new home soon =).

He's NOT actually IN "Tiger Stripes," but he is less than 0.14 miles away. However, the clue with his actual coordinates is located at N 33d 39.309 W 116 19.046. (Hint: Look under the letters "NDS")

Magneto seems to be healthy enough to continue his travels. But before sending him off on his own once again, we couldn't resist throwing him a small party for his 1st birthday. Happy Birthday Magneto! Back on the road soon for you.

Retrieve It from a Cache 10/17/2005 HeBeGB retrieved it from WashOut ! California   Visit Log

My wife and I decided last minute to do a lunch hour cache hunt, so we set off for WashOut! to get close. Not realizing that I had WashOut!'s coordinates in my GPSr, but not Magneto's, we started our search for WashOut amid a few sprinkles. As the rain, thunder and lightning intensified, we scrambled back to the truck, ready to give up. But the rain let up, and Magneto's paperwork was in the truck, so I programmed his location. Now, if I had only thought to go to the bathroom before we left the house...

This was an unbelievably good hide! My receiver told me that I was within ONE FOOT of him but I couldn't find him. I told my wife what a bummer it would be to get struck by lightning while out here.

Finally, Magneto's ride appeared the fourth time we manipulated his cover. We snagged him (and his ride) and high-tailed it out of there. No sense waiting around to get caught in a flash flood.

The poor guy has been without human contact for eight months. We'll feed him well, make sure his vaccinations are up-to-date and send him on his way.

Magneto TB is nearby, never fear! "One man's trash is another man's treasure." Who said that? Doesn't matter, but Magneto is nearby Washout!(GCJHZQ) at N 33d 36.165 W 116d 16.861. Once you find Magneto, please CITO his ride. 😁
