Current Goal

First to travel to Switzerland, to the valley leading to Zermatt (and visit the cache there if it's still there). Then just travel with geocachers around the world posing in photos showing creative parking behaviour.

About This Item

Volvo Backlight

It was summer of 2004. I flew with my wife to Germany and we rented a brand new Mercedes Benz A-Class car and took a 2 week tour in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria and Southern Germany. After only a few days we were already in Zermatt, Switzerland, hiking at one of the greatest sceneries in Europe.

When we came back from a whole-day hike, totally exhausted and hungry, we saw a great big dent above the left tire. 'Nice, our CDW pays the repairs from 750 € on. This'll be a cheap vacation....' we thought. At the same time the owner of our accommodation and a member of the staff came to us saying that they know who did it. The owner had recognized a piece of the broken backlight that was left next to our car. It was from Volvo, and there weren't too many Volvos around.

So the next day the perpetrator came with us to the local car rental where we had the papers made and we could continue our journey. The lesson we learned was that we paid a little extra for a Super CDW which lowered the deductible to 75 € and we had peace of mind for the rest of our trip.

We had to admit that it was quite elaborate parking area behaviour to be able to hit our car, since there was LOTS of space. See the pictures. I took that particular backlight piece of as a memory of the incident, and now it's on the road again as a Travel Bug!

If you can, take photos of creative parking behaviour with this CDW bug and submit them with your log. All the better if it's Mercedes Benz or Volvo. ;)

Please do not send this Travel Bug to anyone/anywhere! It's meant to travel from cache to cache with geocachers themselves. Otherwise I would just send it straight where I want myself. ;)
