Current Goal

This mission is to travel far and wide in the USA and other countries around the world. We ask that the finders please log any of the bills found in the bottle, that are marked with www.wheresgeorge.com at the 'where's george? website'. You do this by entering the serial number and the series year that is listed on the bill. Please leave a short note with each entry. This is a 'currency tracking study' that has many interested participants throughout the USA and other countries.

This '$$George$$ In A Bottle I Travel Bug' is being released in honor of those dedicated 'georgers' attending the Camp George Gathering in Marion, IL on Saturday, March 20, 2004.

About This Item

This bug is attached to a clear plastic bottle with a cork in the top. We have placed dollar bills in it that have the markings of www.wheresgeorge.com. Please return bills to bottle and place in another cache.

I didn’t know exactly what to do with this travel bug and the WheresGeorge bills in it. While I could log the bug here with no problems when I tried to log the WheresGeorge bills I got the following message.

    “Welcome Geocaching user!
Due to past abuses of people placing Where's George? bills into Geocaches as "travel bugs", the number of hits on any bill traveling among Geocaches has now been limited to 10 entries. Bills submitted after they have 10 Geocaching entries are not being accepted. .......
Please return this bill to normal circulation and do not place it into another Geocache.”

Of the bills in the bottle, all but one gave this message. So they can no longer be traced through the WheresGeorge website. One could still be traced since it hadn’t hit the limit of 10 entries. So I put that bill back in the bottle and sent it on its way by placing it in the "Elementary My Dear Watson!" cache. The other bills I will return to normal circulation as the site requests.

Apparently www.wheresgeorge.com is negative about using WheresGeorge bills as travel bugs and considers this an abuse.

I noticed that the next finder of the bug, 419eatinghomer, added new WheresGeorge bills to the bottle so presumably these new Georges can still be logged as the bug travels via geocaches.

Found the TB today. Don't quite understand that various $ bills should travel together. Will contact owner. Anyway, the bottle is going to Toronto next. Normal bills might end up as tips or lie stagnant for months until another trip to the States. That will not be the fate for these. The Canadian equivalent is Where is Willie?
