Arielbelle really wanted to soar here, but we restrained her. What beautiful scenery at this cache! There is an extensive copper mining history in this area, and one of the largest air compressors ever built was near here. It was carved out underground out of solid rock, then water from the river was diverted into it, falling into a large chamber and flowing out the bottom. The pressure of the falling water, and the air entrained in the water caused a pressure rise in an elevated chamber from which a couple of thousand horsepower of compressed air was delivered to run mining tools. There were no moving parts in this compressor!!!
We'll post some photos of this fantastic scenery when we return home. We hiked over two miles on this cache search and the surrounding area.
