About this item: Juneau Squadron Civil Air Patrol 2006 Challenge Coin This travel bug coin hails from southeast Alaska and begins its journey from Oregon, the birthplace of Geocaching. We hope it will go on to visit Civil Air Patrol units all over the United States and elsewhere around the world. The Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the US Air Force and has 3 primary missions: Cadet Program, Aerospace Education, and Emergency Services. The Southeast Composite Squadron (AK-022) is located in Juneau Alaska and serves the Alaska Wing of the CAP. Much of the highly visible activity in Alaska focuses on the search and rescue aspect of the Emergency Services mission. One side of the coin depicts the Pratt &Whitney R985 radial engine and 3-bladed propeller that powers our DeHavilland Beaver aircraft, so familiar in Alaska. The other side of the coin boasts the 8 stars of the Alaska State flag surrounding the Core Values of CAP... Integrity, Excellence, Volunteer Service, and Respect. For more information about the Southeast Composite Squadron, see our website at: http://home.gci.net/~trout/cap/ The lore of challenge coins dates back to WW1 and can be learned at http://www.challengecoinusa.com/ and other websites.
