Mechelote ou pau da Poncha é um instrumento usado na Região Autónoma da Madeira na preparação de bebidas alcoólicas, nomeadamente, poncha. Este instrumento tem várias denominações ao longo da ilha, pode ser conhecido como mechelote, pau de poncha, numa ligação à bebida, ou caralhinho pelo seu aspecto fálico.
Atendendo às origens da bebida pensa-se que as primeiras espécies de mechelotes poderão ter sido feitos em marfim com extremidades algo contundentes por forma a extrair o sumo do limão. Contudo, não existem testemunhos desse período histórico a esse respeito por forma a validar estas meras suposições.
Mechelote or stick of Poncha is an instrument used in the Autonomous Region of Madeira in the preparation of alcoholic beverages, including poncha. This instrument has several names over the island, can be known as mechelote, poncha stick, and as a beverage, or caralhinho by its phallic aspect.
Given the origins of the drink is believed to be the first species of mechelotes could have been done in ivory with something blunt ends in order to extract the juice from the lemon. However, there is no evidence that historical period in this respect in order to validate these mere assumptions.
PONCHA (Tradicional/Traditional)
Ingredientes/Ingredients :
Aguardente de cana de açúcar/Distilled from sugar cane
Mel de abelha/Honey bee
1 Limão/1 Lemon
Açúcar/Sugar
Método de Preparação/Preparation:
Para 1 bêbado/To 1 drunk:
Juntar +/- 5 colheres de sopa de Mel de abelha a 20 cl de aguardente. Com o «caralhinho» dissolve-se muito bem os dois e junta-se o sumo de limão. O açúcar é só para enganar (antigamente, à falta de mel, era usado açúcar).
Add + / - 5 tablespoons of honey bee to 20 ounces of brandy. With 'caralhinho' dissolves very well the two and added the lemon juice. Sugar is just to deceive (formerly, the lack of honey, sugar was used).
