This travel bug is a tribute to Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic painting which hangs in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Van Gogh painted Starry Night while in an asylum at Saint-Remy in 1889. He had suffered terrible bouts of depression all his life, culminating in his suicide a year later at age 37. Although his paintings now hang in museums on every continent except Antarctica, Van Gogh only sold one painting during his lifetime.
In 1971, Don McLean wrote the hit song Vincent (Starry Starry Night) in which he paid tribute to van Gogh’s obsession to paint and his tragic struggle with mental illness.
