How do Trackable Items Work?

Current GOAL: 

This travel bug is a racer in The Race Through America Travel Bug Race. The race is to see who can visit the most states in the United States by July 4, 2005.

To check off each state, the bug must visit a cache inside that state. Racers may only be placed in regular/micro caches -- no virtual or locationless caches. If you are going on a multi-state trip, racers in this race are permitted to check off every state on the journey as long as the bug is dropped into one cache in every state (just drop the racer into the cache, and then pick it back up).
