About This Item

In 2016 Sarpsborg celebrates its millennium.

The town was founded as Borg by Olav Haraldsson who was King of Norway from 1015 until 1028. On the 29th of July 1030 he was killed in the Battle of Stiklestad. One year later he was canonised, and he is now known as St Olav/Olaf.
