Current Goal

Named after Michael Morpurgo, author of Why the Whales Came (1985).  The book inspired the opencache Birdman's Cottage: Revived - OK04DB

We will keep this precious coin with us for now, but we plan to make it a resident coin in its home cache when we manage to visit.

About This Item

Morpurgo

Many thanks to Amberel for awarding us this Top Cache coin for one of our opencaches.  The cache has a long history; it was hidden in 2005 as Birdman's Cottage but was then unnecessarily archived, so we revived it as an opencache: Birdman's Cottage: Revived - OK04DB

The cache sits on the summit of Samson Hill, on the island of Bryher in the Isles of Scilly.  The hilltop has a 360 degree view of the archipelago and, to the west, the Atlantic Ocean.  Samson Hill was home to The Birdman's  cottage in Michael Morpurgo's book Why the Whales Came.  The film of the book, "When the Whales Came" (1989), was filmed on Bryher.  Islanders played major roles in the film and, though I can't find confirmation, I think that the Birdman's Cottage was temporarily built on Samson Hill for the filming.
