Rescue mission to pull a very nicely painted turtle bug out of a tower prison. My dog Annie climbed the hill with me, even she huffed and puffed and slipped in the mud. This is a !terrible place to leave a TB. He's thawing out now with Bug-Eyed Booie, who's last cache got surrounded by water from our river's highest level in a decade. (GCE925) I waded out to get him before the snowmelt began. Other caches have been washed away, probably half way to the Pacific Ocean. Since this bug has been sleeping sooooo long, here's a little about the area your bug has been in, if you were wondering. That remote highway he was on is in the middle of almost nowhere. It runs starts in Elko Nevada, home of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering; it climbs up out of the Great Basin (including a view of the Ruby Mountains) over the rim at about 6500' elevation near Wild Horse Reservoir which has a foot of ice right now, through the ghost town of Mountain City, winds dizzily down the Owyhee River headwaters through Duck Valley Indian Reservation, then drops to 2700' to cross the Snake River in National Birds of Prey Conservation Area, and finally comes out at Mountain Home where the Stealth Fighters practice flying in the desert.
