January Featured Geocacher of the Month Nominees – Add Your Comments

January’s featured nominees are fabulous examples of uniquely talented geocachers. Though many other qualified candidates were nominated, Groundspeak Lackeys selected these three helpful, innovative, and creative nominees.  Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as January’s featured “Geocacher of the Month.”

AbbeyAckbar, December Featured Geocacher of the Month

Write a comment on this blog post about which of these three geocachers you feel should be the featured “Geocacher of the Month.” Those whose nominees were not recognized here are encouraged to submit their nominations again next month.

Last month, AbbeyAckbar was chosen as the December Featured Geocacher of the Month. AbbeyAckbar, a geocaching couple, was recognized for organizing some of the most creative and popular events in Dublin, Ireland. They were also acknowledged for their consistent willingness to assist geocachers in need. Congratulations again to AbbeyAckbar and all other December nominees.

Here are your nominees for the January Featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

Nominated by BigAI437, “Kevin has not only started the geocaching blog, Cachecrazy.com, that reaches international geocachers, but he is constantly getting involved with the local community. Recently he set up a geocaching day for a group of local Girl Scouts. He took them out to find some caches after teaching them all about geocaching. Kevin made sure that these young girls had lots of fun and learned about a new sport that is not only fun, but takes you to places that you might have never visited. I am totally inspired by his commitment to geocaching, the geocaching community, and to his local community.”

Nominated by TeamDotOne, “SerenityNow is responsible for the largest annual events in Ohio known affectionately as the Grand Caching Events (GCE). An example of one of these events is CSI: Cleveland.  Not only do to they go way out of their way to host the best events ever but they always seem to come up with something new each and every year to make people want to keep coming back. We have spent countless hours enjoying their company, enjoying their events, enjoying their caches and most importantly, enjoying their friendship.”

Nominated by Horseshoechamp, “Memomls has put on many 101 events and always embraces new cachers with her friendly charm. She is the back bone of North Florida and is known far and wide for her giving- not only her knowledge but her wisdom of caching to all she comes in contact with. Memomls is part owner in a starting Geo-Business here in North Florida called The Cache Station which supplies all sorts of items for both new and old cachers alike. She looks out for many geocachers and willingly hosts events for different people’s accomplishments, even when they are new to geocaching.”

Comment below to tell us who you think should be the featured January “Geocacher of the Month.” A panel of Lackeys will use your comments to help decide which geocacher is awarded the honor. Each featured “Geocacher of the Month” will receive an exclusive special edition featured ”Geocacher of the Month” Geocoin along with a Geocacher of the Month hat and a certificate acknowledging their contributions signed by two of the founders of Geocaching.com. We will be accepting comments for January’s award through Monday February 6th.

  • Nascarty

My blood pressure is rising and my name is Frank Costanza, so I must say, “Serenity Now! Serenity Now!

  • Db173skysoldier

I vote for SerenityNow.  They have organized elaborate caching events every year that are attended by HUNDREDS of cachers. It brings together cachers from many States neighboring Ohio. In addition, they have placed many caches, and and are definately leaders of the caching community in NE  Ohio.

  • Groll494

I vote for bloodhounded. Hooray for working with the Girl Scouts

  • 1dodgetruck

I vote for Memomls.  She is always willing to help new cachers and get people involved in caching.

  • P1tax

Serenity Now without a doubt deseres this!!!

  • I vote for memols.  She has made many positive contributes for North East Florida Geocaching(NEFGA) Events and caches along with serving as board member for NEFGA

  • littlebigal1985

I would like to cast my vote for Bloodhounded.

  • Axetowax

We don’t know SerenityNow and have not been able to make it to any of her events, but we have heard great reviews of all of them and we have done a lot of her caches.  So our vote is for SerenityNow!

  • Crt2169

    I vote for Bloodhounded!

  • hitheryon

    SerenityNow! gets my vote

  • Czarniecki314

Tough choices but I would like to support Bloodhouded. I appreciate anyone who helps bring the joy of GeoCaching to kids – and especially young girls who aren’t always encouraged to play outside.

  • hellifiknow

Grand-caching event co-hosts, hiders or unique (and often times frustrating) hides, hosts of monthly coffee events, welcomers or cachers new and old…
Just overall great cachers and people.

  • Ashotz

Log another vote for Serenity Now. Got to love the old school cachers who prefer NOT to hide a cache in a lamp post outside a store. They have introduced many types of hides which have been cloned by others, which expands our huge number of caches. Plus (although I was 2nd to find PEZ) I still haven’t figured it out–so maybe they will tell me how to solve it (3 years later)

  • Lonewolf

These folks do a tremendous job for the geocaching community……I v0te for SerenityNow!

  • nativefly182

Memomls gets my vote for her enthusiasm for geocaching!!

  • The Busy Bee

My vote is for SerenityNow!  The first time I met them was when I attended my very first meet and greet type of event.  I was very nervous about meeting other geocachers as I had only found 17 geocaches and really didn’t know what I was doing.   I stopped and introduced myself and explained that I was very new to this whole geocaching thing.  We talked a bit and then Tom gave me one of his pathtags.  I had no idea what it was or what to do with it.  Again, he helped my understand what a pathtag was and what to do with it.  I will never forget that day, it really meant something special to me.  As I have grown to know SerenityNow I have to say that my very first impression of them was amazing and I still have that same feeling of them today.

  • Dodger Lizard Crew

Congratulations to all the nominees.  They are all worthy, however we would like to place our vote for Bloodhounded.  Hider of great caches, a teacher of the game, a loyal friend… a class act all the way.

  • Dame Deco

    SerenityNow gets my vote!
On top of all of their traditional caches, they put out the BEST multi and puzzle caches!  They just have imagination to burn!  They are so friendly, always helpful to new cachers, and so committed to the geocaching community in NE Ohio!  I’ve only been caching a little over a year, so I haven’t attended one of their mega events yet, but I can’t wait!

  • Period9

I vote for serenitynow. I love finding their caches all over the area that I live it. I have been to several of their events or have talked to them at events.

  • SpeedCity

I vote for SerenityNow, they place great caches. Their CSI: GCE was amazing! I couldn’t even start to imagine the planning and time that was put into it! 🙂

  • Tediebear1

Serenity now!  I can’t wait to go to one of their events!

  • Kevin Larson

My vote definitely goes out to Memomls! She is an amazing cacher and person. When we started caching about a year ago she reached out a friendly hand to just say hello and welcome to the world of Geocaching. Since then we have gotten to know her and realized how much she does to make sure everyone feels as welcome as we did. From all the 101 events she has put together to actually cache with new people, she makes sure no one feels left out. Memomls is truly an inspiration to us all and we are so proud to call ourselves friends of her. She deserves this recognition more than anyone we’ve met in this Geocaching world!!

Of course we vote for Memomis

  • army-brats

Voting for SerenityNow. Two amazing people and geocachers, with hearts of gold. AND they put on THE BEST events EVER!!!

  • Anonymous

My vote goes to SerenityNow!!!  They are two of the most friendly people that I have met while geocaching.  The grand events they hold are just awesome!!!  They also put out great caches and events for all of us.

  • Anonymous

    It has to be SerenityNow.

  • Clint5566

Because of their amazing contributions to the geo-community my vote is for Serenity Now!

  • Loftongal

My vote goes to SerenityNow!  They put an infinite amount of work into their Grand Caching Events.  They are not to be missed!!!

  • alexsandra9000

SerenityNow got us into geocaching – they are awesome!

  • Joesbar

SerenityNow gets my vote.  They have been caching since 2002.  Ask any cacher in north east OH, and they will know these two.
As stated in their nomination, they host, along with their daughter and son-in-law Finding Fraggle Rock, grand caching events here.  I believe they have eight or nine of these big events.  The past several years have been sell outs with 300+ cachers from several states and Canada attending.  In addition to the big events, SerenityNow take part in hosting a monthly coffee night that is attended by the local cachers. (Visitors always welcome.)
And, they are just nice people.

  • HippoMaMa

SERENITYNOW should be the clear winner. Caching in Ohio, or anywhere else is a better sport because of them. There has not been a single time that I’ve been out caching and they have not been brought up, IN A GOOD WAY!

  • SerenityNow are two of the nicest geocachers I know. I’m a North Carolina cacher (part of The Alethiometrists), but when I was caching in NE Ohio and logged some of their caches, Tom emailed me and invited me to one of their monthly “Sitting Around Talking” events. Though I didn’t know anybody, I went and they made sure I felt very welcome. The NEOGEO group seems like one of the most congenial caching groups around, and SerenityNow have clearly contributed to that spirit.

  • -HellFire-

I am voting for Memomls, She is a great gal that is always giving back to the community.

  • My vote goes to SerenityNow.  I met them when I started caching in 2002. They were always great to chat with and I could tell they were dedicated to geocaching not only for themselves, but for others.
It always brings a smile to my face when I run across on of their caches on my trips to Ohio.

  • cacheking1998

    I vote for bloodhounded

  • I vote for bloodhounded

  • buckeyealum

SenenityNow!  I cannot imagine a more deserving recipient of Geocacher of the Month.  Their Grand Caching Events are legend in this region, and beyond.  Tom and Anna Mary are devoted to promoting fun, family friendly, geocaching here in Ohio and beyond.  SerenityNow, your efforts are phenomenal and greatly appreciated!  buckeyealum

  • litehouse77

SerenityNow gets my vote.  All the things they do for the NE Ohio area is truly outstanding.  What a great couple they are to share their hobby with all of us.

  • TnbH21

Voting for Bloodhounded.  Great hider of mystery and multi caches.

  • Dashers

We vote for SerenityNow!  We have been attending their Grand Caching Events since 2004.  Every year they have a new theme, a new locale and a new twist to keep everyone guessing.  At the Amethyst Murder we solved a murder mystery.  At Alien Encounter we assembled our own alien. At Mardi Gras we did a variety of wild stunts (like kissing a stranger’s bald head while playing musical instruments) to win points.  In C.S.I. Cleveland we used out deductive powers to solve a case and determine the perpetrator! All this while traveling at the speed of light to find caches, caches and more caches! And after all this, we get to relax, eat, meet with all the other cachers to exchange stories (Where did you find a bald guy who wanted to be kissed?),…did I mention eat?  But, in addition to all the fun that SerenetyNow orchestrates for us, they are really ambassadors for geocaching: friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to share their love of the sport with others.

  • Fox-and-the-hound

Have to give my thumbs up for Bloodhounded!  He’s a tremendous asset to the geo-community as well as the area communities.  I tireless force of nature in NEPAG country bringing the joy of the game to first timers, supporting his fellow cachers and sharing ideas freely.  Thanks for all you do Kevin!

  • Harold Newberry

Bloodhounded gets my vote. Kevin has created some of the most interesting caches that I have ever seen. Truly an evil genius…….Heh Heh Heh 🙂

    Signed Big_Dog1970

  • Shoob&sheeb

A vote for Bloodhounded, very creative containers.

  • Fatkidsotwunite!

Memomls gets my vote for all the hard work and dedication she has for the geocaching community. Congrats on the nomination!

  • Delaware Hiker

SerenityNow gets my vote. Don’t know them, but looked at all three cacher’s pages and it looks like they make that extra effort when putting out caches. I look forward to adding their name to my numbers next time I’m in their neck of Ohio. They are all winners just to get this far. TFTCs, ya’all

  • Dave “Yankabucs” Sargent

Memomis has our vote, her geocaching 101 events are always followed by extensive comments about how much both old and new cachers have learned. Truely a  fun cacher to be doing a run with or meet at a lonely cache. Loves the game and happy to share that enthusiasm with any she comes in contact with.

  • GeaugaGarmin

    Another vote for SerenityNow!

  • gimpyfl

Memomls has my vote.  She puts on great events which I know she works hard at.  She has placed alot of caches in the area and just does an outstanding job in the geocaching community…..go get em Memomls!!
