March Featured Geocacher of the Month Nominees – Add Your Comments

March’s featured nominees are a great example of those who take geocaching wide and far. Though many other qualified candidates were nominated, Groundspeak Lackeys selected these three daring, helpful, and  inspirational nominees. Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as March’s featured “Geocacher of the Month.”

Magicman65 - February 2012 Geocacher of the Month

Write a comment on this blog post about which of these three geocachers you feel should be the feartured “Geocacher of the Month.” Those whose nominees were not recognized here are encouraged to submit their nominations again next month.

Last month, Magicman65 was chosen as the February Featured Geocacher of the Month. Magicman65 was recognized for his ability to engage the geocaching community with creativity, commitment, and encouragement.

Here are your nominees for the March Featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

Nominated by Hmichel777, “Alexschweigert led the Allerhalligen-Cruises on March, 24th on the fastest ship in the Wadden Sea with 280 cachers on board. That’s the 5th event of its kind involving chartered ships on the north sea led by Alex and his team. Alex shares his love for geocaching and the sea with others by inviting them to experience a geocaching adventure like no other. All events are recorded and can be found in Alex’s blog.”

Nominated by Treknschmidt, “We met Lisdowney aka Arnie and Gerry when we were working on completing a tough challenge cache. They were always willing to share their own experiences with us and to provide us with words of encouragement along the way. It’s not unusual to find one of them up a tree, in a cave, or canoeing to one of Ontario’s remote locations to log a lonely cache. Not only are these two always willing to offer a helping hand but they are truly inspirational to everyone of any age.”

Nominated by BSW2010, “Glenn is one of the best cachers in our area and contributes a lot to the geocaching community. He hosts an event every year on New Year’s Day. This proud Silver Level EarthCashe Master puts a lot of thought and effort into every cache he hides. Glenn keeps us plenty busy and is willing to help with any of his hides.”

Comment below to tell us who you think should be the featured March “Geocacher of the Month.” A panel of Lackeys will use your comments to help decide which geocacher is awarded the honor. Each featured “Geocacher of the Month” will receive an exclusive special edition featured ”Geocacher of the Month” Geocoin along with a Geocacher of the Month hat and a certificate acknowledging their contributions signed by two of the founders of Geocaching.com. We will be accepting comments for March’s award through Friday, April 20th.

If you know an outstanding geocacher you would like to nominate to be a Featured Geocacher of the Month, send an email to geocacherofthemonth@groundspeak.com.

  • danielwest76

My vote goes to Lisdowney. I have only had a brief email exchange regarding a cache series of mine that was entirely muggled, but found them to be very supportive in me getting it back up and running for more people to enjoy.

  • Teichkind

My vote: ALEXSCHWEIGERT, no doubt about it. A man with power and the
talent to imagine, to create, to organize, to convince and to control
extraordinary things, especially those events on sea and land at German North Sea Coast for not only local mates, but for cachers from all over Germany. And he is a bit of an Alpha leader, of course, too  ;))

  • Martin Draheim

    My Vote: Alexschweigert!

  • Dr. House

    Lisdowney. Without question or hesitation.

  • Magicman65

After reading all of this months nominees caching profiles, I would have to vote for Lisdowney. They have completed all 81 Difficulty/Terrain ratings. That in itself is quite a feat. I do not personaly know any of the nominees this month and they all sound like awesome people. I was the Geocacher of the month last month and had quite a few people vote for me even though they had never met me or knew me. This month and every month, I will be taking thier lead in voting for who I believe to be the most worthy. I wish I could vote for you all. Good luck everyone!!!

  • I vote for ALEXSCHWEIGERT ! Greetings just4funAC

  • There’s something about Lisdowney that brightens your spirits every time you seem them.  They is something so genuine about them that goes beyond even their countless contributions to the central Ontario geocaching community.  They are like the grandparents that everyone’s always wanted:  the ones that climb trees and take your on canoe trips, and give of themselves selflessly.

  • Owenk21

My vote is for Lisdowney. As long as I have been caching they have been a friendly and supportive team, always willing to help out and support local events! They always have a smile and a friendly greeting each time we meet, and they have a special place in their hearts for my two young daughters. Lisdowney is a wonderful caching team and I am happy to support them as cacher of the month.

  • Pat Smith

Lisdowney   They are always willing to help when called upon. A big help to me when I started geocaching.

  • Pboulanger

We *follow* Lisdowney … that used to be called “stalking”.  They are a Pocket Query of fun.  We have never met more positive cachers, always a big smile and great stories.  And this says it all: we knew of their exploits and were anxious to meet them, and at an event THEY tapped US on the shoulder and said “Hi, we’re Gerry and Arnie”.  Wow, like meeting Mick and Keith, only much, much younger.  They are not Cachers of the Month, but Cachers of the Year!  So here’s to Lisdowney!

  • GageClan

My vote goes to Gsix5666. He is a great hider and always is willing to help if you get stuck on any of his caches. Gsix5666 has almost 1000 hides under his belt so if you have any questions on a hide that you thought would be cool or fun, run it by him, for he might have already hid one like that.

  • heiko_henkel

My vote for the one and only ALEXSCHWEIGERT

  • Speedy54

Lisdowney of course, two of the nicest people anyone could have the pleasure of knowing…. Retired my a*s… LOL.

  • Andreasc

Lisdowney are the best cachers ever! Very friendly and always ready to help!! They got my vote!!!

  • Ritter Ramon

Alex. Schweigert – No question – who has been through the program can not otherwise agree as to alexschweigert.

  • SearchinSwifts

I have known Lisdowney for several years now, and have shared canoes, chartered boats and countless trails with them. They are always friendly, always helpful and always active! I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the COTM honour.

  • davetecsgirl

    I vote for Lisdowney

  • Davtec

Lisdowney hands down… they get my vote

  • dgas71

I vote for Lisdowney. Arnie and Gerry are some amazing people. I’ve had the opportunity to cache with them a few times and it’s always been fun. They set a goal one summer to find 50 canoe caches. They not only achieved that goal but doubled it.

They are also very active in our local geocaching community and have been a big part in the sucess of COG Spring Fling Mega event each year.

    Good luck Arnie and Gerry

  • I vote for ALEXSCHWEIGERT – great tour around the wadden sea at “AllerhalligenCruise 2012”

  • Vote for Alexschweigert

  • Trracer

I vote for the little man from North Frisia alexschweigert. I never met him but I saw many of fulfilled and happy people after his events.

  • Y2kcompliant

Gsix5666 is a great ambassador for the sport.  Glenn keeps his caches fresh and
    entertaining.  Glenn places caches to
please all types of cachers, ranging from easy traditionals to physically
challenging hides and mentally challenging puzzles.  Glenn is very helpful and approachable.  He puts far more into the sport than the
average cacher and is very deserving of this honor.

  • Groppi Gc

Alex is the organisator of the most famous Event for geocachers in Germany. For that reason and for the fun he brings to the community he earns my respect and my vote!
