March Featured Geocacher of the Month Nominees – Add Your Comments

March’s featured nominees are a great example of those who take geocaching wide and far. Though many other qualified candidates were nominated, Groundspeak Lackeys selected these three daring, helpful, and  inspirational nominees. Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as March’s featured “Geocacher of the Month.”

Magicman65 - February 2012 Geocacher of the Month

Write a comment on this blog post about which of these three geocachers you feel should be the feartured “Geocacher of the Month.” Those whose nominees were not recognized here are encouraged to submit their nominations again next month.

Last month, Magicman65 was chosen as the February Featured Geocacher of the Month. Magicman65 was recognized for his ability to engage the geocaching community with creativity, commitment, and encouragement.

Here are your nominees for the March Featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

Nominated by Hmichel777, “Alexschweigert led the Allerhalligen-Cruises on March, 24th on the fastest ship in the Wadden Sea with 280 cachers on board. That’s the 5th event of its kind involving chartered ships on the north sea led by Alex and his team. Alex shares his love for geocaching and the sea with others by inviting them to experience a geocaching adventure like no other. All events are recorded and can be found in Alex’s blog.”

Nominated by Treknschmidt, “We met Lisdowney aka Arnie and Gerry when we were working on completing a tough challenge cache. They were always willing to share their own experiences with us and to provide us with words of encouragement along the way. It’s not unusual to find one of them up a tree, in a cave, or canoeing to one of Ontario’s remote locations to log a lonely cache. Not only are these two always willing to offer a helping hand but they are truly inspirational to everyone of any age.”

Nominated by BSW2010, “Glenn is one of the best cachers in our area and contributes a lot to the geocaching community. He hosts an event every year on New Year’s Day. This proud Silver Level EarthCashe Master puts a lot of thought and effort into every cache he hides. Glenn keeps us plenty busy and is willing to help with any of his hides.”

Comment below to tell us who you think should be the featured March “Geocacher of the Month.” A panel of Lackeys will use your comments to help decide which geocacher is awarded the honor. Each featured “Geocacher of the Month” will receive an exclusive special edition featured ”Geocacher of the Month” Geocoin along with a Geocacher of the Month hat and a certificate acknowledging their contributions signed by two of the founders of Geocaching.com. We will be accepting comments for March’s award through Friday, April 20th.

If you know an outstanding geocacher you would like to nominate to be a Featured Geocacher of the Month, send an email to geocacherofthemonth@groundspeak.com.

  • All my votes are going for Alexschweigert.
Even if you have had no chance until now to attend an event organized by him, he does a lot of information posts for the german geocaching community so its “like an attend” if you see the pre-event-posts and the “normal” geocaching informations/posts and discussions on which Alexschweigert takes part. And what you can read out of the eventreviews and pictures that must be great events.
Also only to see what great cacheideas he has or helps other cachers to setup an outstanding geocaching-idea is a reason to replan the holidays and go get for the new cache. Also if it means that you will have to drive through the whole country in my case for example.

  • Swifteroo

There are some folks who exemplify the sport of Geocaching very well.  Then there are some folks who exemplify the best in humanity.  Gerri and Arnie are no exception in either case.  Both Gerri and Arnie have found the best in Geocaching and explored it to it’s fullest.  All it takes is one look to their statistics to see all that they have accomplished.  While I still contemplate the idea of finishing my first “Difficulty/Terrain” 81 combination, my mind boggles at the thought of having done this 13 times.
What you wont see in those statistics, however, is the intangible qualities that these two give back to the community.  Gerri and Arnie have been instrumental in the Central Ontario Geocachers crew and have provided backbone (and a meeting place with amazing burgers!) for the annual COG Spring Fling event.  Help with a puzzle, Discussions about the community, good-natured laughter and friendship.  There is no end to the list of amazing qualities that you will find in this team.  Lisdowney provide so much back to the sport of Geocaching that it’s hard to know where to begin the discussion. Yet, they have never asked anything in return.  They have already “Won” top honors in the opinions of so many, but, without question, my vote goes to Lisdowney for all they have done, and will continue to do for our pasttime.  Congratulations to you both.  Read all of the wonderful comments here. You deserve them all.  They come from the heart.

  • “Give of themselves selflessly”.  That about sums it up! 😀

  • Lisdowney gets my vote. They’ll help organize your event, they’ll find your cache and leave you great comments, and they’ll hide a mysterious series of puzzle caches that drive all top cachers crazy for a hundred miles around.  (And they’ll invite you around to their house for emergency laundry services when your infant has a potty emergency out on the trail!)  They’re the best.

  • trolloma

Natürlich bin ich für Alexschweigert, trolloma ulla

  • Landsharkz

Even here on Canada’s west coast we hear through the caching grapevine of Lisdowney’s caching escapades and adventures. It seems that they ‘infect’ everyone they meet with their enthusiasm for quality caching and that geocaching all about the journey… especially if it involves a canoe! I envy new cachers that meet Lisdowney in the field or at an event – what a treat to have people like that in your community.

We have a caching bucket list of sorts and if and when we return to COG country we will surely be bold enough to plead with Arnie and Gerry to take us canoeing. We too would like to spend some time in their company and experience their caching spirit first hand! Good luck to all nominees, I’m sure you all deserve to win! Our vote is for Lisdowney :).

  • Isqubaandnawty

Lisdowney for sure. We have often geocached with them.
It is a pleasure to cache with a couple who can converse intelligently as well as
find those difficult hides. We have hiked easy and difficult trails with them.
We also enjoyed paddling on lakes and rivers with them. They are also very
eager volunteers for COG Spring Fling. They are a joy to be around.
